

Robert French Charles of Middletown, Ohio passed away at his home on June 27, 2012. He was born November 30, 1950 in Winchester, Kentucky to Ruth Jean and Ernest Charles. He was a graduate of Middletown High School in 1969 and joined the United States Navy where he served from 1969-1971. He trained at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois and served in Vietnam as a Navy Seabee. After returning from Vietnam he made his home in Hawaii for 38 years. He attended the University of Hawaii where he studied acting. He returned to his hometown in 2009 and married his first love, Carolyn Thurman in 2010.
Rob is survived by his wife Carolyn Charles; two daughters, Traci and Robin Charles of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister Brenda Charles and brother-in-law Jeffery Mironov of New York City; his Mother and Step Father Ruth and John Honaker; step sons, Scott Kennard, Brian Kennard and wife April of Lebanon, Ohio; a granddaughter, Abella Charles of Atlanta Georgia; half-brother Ernest Glenn Charles; a half-sister Vicky Crisp and a brother -in-law Tom Thurman of Gibsonia, PA.; Uncle Frenchy and Aunt Audry of Kentucky; and many cousins, as well as life-long friends in Hawaii, and Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Charles, and his grandparents, Carl and Mary Charles and Leoff and Alice Curtis.
Rob and Carolyn loved to travel and were able to see Hawaii and New York City last year. He was a Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed going to the games with Carolyn. Rob loved photography and left behind many fantastic and beautiful pictures, he had an eye for beauty in nature and loved to photograph sunsets and flowers, as well as all the happy moments of his life. Rob had many sides to his life, he was a singer, and starred in "South Pacific" when he was only 7 years old, he loved acting and wrote screenplays. He was a great story teller and used his background in acting to enhance each story he told.
His presence on this earth will be sadly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. His wisdom, humor, talents and love made this world a better place because he lived.
A memorial service is planned for 2 PM on Saturday June 30 in the Chapel at Sycamore Hospital, Miamisburg, Ohio, with Chaplain Raul Concha.
