

Robert Steel, age 83, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday morning, July 29, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. He was born February 15, 1931 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the son of Edwin Paul Steel and Viola Pearl Beagle Steel. He received a BA from Furman University SC and a MA from Florida State.
After 3 years in the US Army producing instructional films, he worked as a technical writer and eventually founded Robert Steel & Associates, a public relations firm.
Bob's favorite hobby was photography and took a course with Ansel Adams. In retirement he volunteered to assist civic groups and friends maintain their computer systems.
Bob loved gadgets, technology, old movie trivia and, of course, his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Belle Brandon Steel; two daughters, Dr. Barbara husband, Jeffrey Moore Steel of Middletown and Nancy husband, Nicholas Combs of New Zealand; and six grandchildren, Colin, Claire, Brandon, Amanda, Ruslan and Valik.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday August 16 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Greg Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Camp Run Cemetery, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
