To Susie, Nancy, and Scott and to all the family I send my heartfelt condolences!  I was able to watch the service on line and I thought it was very nice!!
My memory of your dad was that he was always nice to me at a young age at all the Weisner reunions.  He was 18 years older but he took time to always talk to me .  I considered him my first cousin just like your mom.  They were one of the happiest couples I remember when growing up too.  As I grew up and the Weisner reunions stopped happening your parents would always continue to send the beautiful Christmas cards so I felt always that we never forgot each other. I last saw your dad at Cliff and Ruthanns 50 anniversary. He didn’t remember me but he still was the sweet man I had always remembered.  My mom had Alzheimer’s for 5 years so I know the pain all you experienced. 
I also remember your dad being so kind to bring up several antique dishes for my mom to pick which one she wanted. I think it was on a dentistry appointment day with my dad for you three?? My parents loved Dutch so much too!
Anyway , mom gave it to me later on in life so I will cherish it forever as I cherish knowing your wonderfully kind fun loving father.   I feel I was blessed to have known him!

I just wanted to thank all of my friends at Graphic Packaging for allowing me the flexibility to take time to care for my mom and dad over the years.  It meant the world to me that you cared enough to allow me to be able to work and care for them.  Thank you so much for the memory stone and wind chimes.  I will put them in my garden in the spring.
Thank you to my daughter Steph for traveling from Colorado with Nick for Grandpa’s funeral.

I met the Strasburger family when I was a teenager and remember how you and Patti made everyone feel welcomed in your home. I loved listening to your stories about your childhood and your many adventures finding antiques.  You and Patti were some of the most kind and generous people I have ever known. You both devoted so much time, love and attention to my son, your grandson Kyle. I will forever be grateful for all the lessons you taught him about life and the value of family. When Kyle was very young, maybe 3 years old, you sat up a little stand for him in your front yard because he wanted to sell sticks to your neighbors. I imagined then that he might have a future as a businessman, like his grandpa. You will be greatly missed by so many people, your kindness touched many lives, praying God’s peace and comfort for the Strasburger family.

Bob...I hope you can hear my thoughts.  I have way too many to write about.  I have spent the past 8 years thinking about the family you gave me.  You were the very first one to let me know I was ok and you were glad I was apart of the family.  I have never met a man like you.  Your character, morals, honor, and heart are that of NO ONE I have ever met.  I loved hearing every single story you told.  The first time I was so very impressed was seeing your Carnival collection in the house on a street that started with a K...in Carlisle.  I had never seen anything like it before.  Soon, you allowed me to join you and Scott on your little trips and the auctions in St. Paul.  My first lesson in being a part of the family was to eat VERY fast!  It was 6:30 am barely daylight and you parked the car and it was assumed that if I was hungry, get out and grab some food.  You ordered first and then Scott and then me.  By the time I got my food and brought it to the table, you finished and went out to the car.  One look from your son told me everything I needed to know.  Dad is on a mission, lets go now. lol.  Many years follow and I learned the routine.  You let me help in St. Paul and you always treated us to a very yummy dinner after!  I followed you many times through the flea markets, always inspired by your speed and giant calf muscles!  And your ability to see things from far away and zone in and make the deal happen!  You even gave me and the kids fun money which made me feel like a kid too!  Right now I can still see your sweet face and smile and those kind...very kind eyes.  You were such a generous and kind hearted man and there was nothing I wouldn't do to help you or Patti.  Hedging your bushes, driving to pick up your new Cadillac and bringing it back to you, cleaning your beautiful home.  And visiting your basement became a wonderful time to see all your new finds and watch you glow and smile!  Bob, you gave our family so many wonderful and funny memories!

After Dad’s dementia was causing significant impairment, he came to stay with Larry, Tim and I for a month. Larry took him to the Senior Adult Center daily and at times to the Recreation Center where they shot baskets.  One day a couple of teenage boys came in and watched Dad shooting baskets and told him that he was just like Jerry West, which delighted Dad!  At night, on multiple occasions, while the rest of us were sleeping, he packed up things he found around my house - including my purse - into some empty chicken boxes I had. I eventually had to hide the boxes away.  One night, Tim woke up to see Dad standing beside his bed staring at him and then Dad said to him: “Hi, how you doing?” Interestingly, Dad did all his night- time maneuvers in the dark but never fell or ran into anything. He continued his night-time activities while at the nursing home – he and his roommate wandered the halls at night in their wheelchairs getting into mischief at times – sleeping during the day. The staff at the nursing home really liked Dad because he was always so nice to them and I think they let him get away with things at times.  

Dad made a big impression on my life and will always be unforgettable to me.  May God take him to Heaven for eternity. SSSS

It was always said that I was a “Daddy’s Girl” and I guess that was true.  
Dad was my advisor, confidant and sometimes counselor – not that I always followed his advice. 
I always admired and respected Dad.  Watching him decline over the past several years due to his dementia was one of the hardest things I have ever had to experience.  However, he retained his optimism and zest for life.   
I have many fond memories of Dad that I will always treasure. 
I remember when we were on vacation in the Smokey Mountains and he had just bought me a coon skin hat (not a cheap, fake one) which I proudly wore.  Unfortunately, the wind got hold of the hat as we were driving and it blew off my head, out the window, onto the double lane highway.  Dad found the quickest place to turn around and bravely ran out into the busy highway to retrieve my beloved coon skin hat which was still intact.  
I remember hiding my Dad’s partial plate – his two front teeth – on an April Fool’s Day, thinking I was very clever at the age of eight.  He got me back when he found it and then told me that they were broken, which fortunately wasn’t true but certainly evoked anxiety and contrition on my part!
I remember being Dad’s co-pilot/navigator, sitting up front with him, when we traveled to the 1964/1965 World’s Fair in New York while Mom and Nancy sat in the back seat.  I felt so important because he trusted me to tell him when we needed to turn, etc. and I was only 9 or 10 years old.

I remember Dad complaining to Mom about how much money she spent on clothes for the family and he volunteered to take me shopping for a new winter coat.  I came back with the nicest coat I ever had -and I’m sure the most expensive – brown suede leather with a real fur collar and even a matching hat!  He never took me shopping again.
I remember Dad dressing himself well for work - which I am sure that Mom orchestrated - wearing a shirt and tie along with his black wingtip shoes.  I have the memory of him attending a large high school banquet of mine – perhaps a band banquet - where it was noted by my friend Cheryl Lee and me that only he and her father wore dress shirts that were a color other than white in the entire crowd.   We had the “cool” fathers!  However, he was the also the man who wore the same red and white checkered seersucker shorts until they became ragged.  His red Chuck Taylor converse shoes have now become fashionable again.  In his later years he went for comfort rather fashion – often wearing red – which was a continuous irritant to my Mom.

Dad always liked to have a nice car in his favorite color of red – I remember him ordering and then eagerly picking up a shiny red Chevy II Super Sport with bucket seats.
I remember elaborately carving a pumpkin at Halloween when I was in high school which was displayed on the front porch.  An adolescent boy came to “trick or treat”, grabbed my pumpkin and smashed it to the ground.  My Dad ran after him, caught him and made him write an apology letter to me.
I remember Dad helping me pick out my high school courses with the strong advice to make sure I took at least one business course. To his dismay, I graduated from high school, college and then graduate school without ever taking a business course.  Fortunately, my sister and brother headed his advice and are both business professionals.

My maternal grandmother’s (Inez Weisner) birthday was September 19th, which was annually celebrated by the extended family (which was a large group), for decades, at Welliver’s Smorgasbord in Hagerstown, Indiana.  I’m not sure when he started but my Dad insisted on paying the entire bill, which was one example of his tremendous generosity. He also gave away hundreds of dollars in his family Easter Egg Hunts– which at times became contentious.  He also liked to give his grandchildren (and often his children as well) money for shooting & making baskets during family competitions. However, he was also a very frugal man, which helped him have the means to be so generous. 
Dad liked to tell stories about his childhood, like the story of his brother “Ninebucks” and his cousins, Charles and Don Avery, sneaking into the Saturday matinee to watch movies.  Dad was the mastermind. He knew his parents had an account at the local grocery so he would get a couple of bottles of milk, pour them out, and then take the bottles back to get the deposit for them. This money paid for one person to enter the movie theater who then let the other three in through the window in the bathroom.

Dad told the story of having to share a bike with his brother “Ninebucks”- each using it every other day - since the family couldn’t afford two bikes.  He also talked about sitting in the last row at church so that when he kneeled no one could see that he had holes in his shoes.  In addition, he talked about having only having one pair of dress pants and one pair of blue jeans which he wore at the same time because the dress pants were “itchy”.  He became financially successful in his adulthood but never forgot his humble beginning nor would he let his children forget when they complained about being “deprived” of something they wanted.  Dad was quite astonished but also somewhat proud when he discovered that he had both British and Irish royal blood from his maternal grandfather’s side of the family.

Dad and Scott grew close by “antiquing” together at flea markets, garage sales, auctions etc. and accumulating a lot of treasures that were often stored in chicken boxes (the actual waxed boxes in which poultry is transported) in the basement, garage or wherever they could find space. Mom called them “Sanford and Son” after a television show about a junk collector and his son.  Scott carried on after Dad couldn’t any longer and now has a barn, large trailer and van for his treasures.  He and Dad have been successful over the years at selling their treasures and making a nice profit.

To my mother’s dismay, Dad liked to talk about his beloved grandmother – Mama Lena – who ran a successful speakeasy after she was widowed with young children.  He spoke about as a child meeting influential people who frequented the speakeasy, that was run in her home, and how they gave him valuable advice about life and some pocket change at times.  He helped his grandmother by breaking empty bottles outside.  His cousin, Charles Avery, also told me about how much he enjoyed being at Mama Lena’s speakeasy. Dad always used the term “bootlegger” for his grandmother.  She definitely had the keen business sense that Dad also possessed.  

Dad was always supportive to me – he always showed up to sit with me at the hospital while I waited for Larry to be done with his first 10 eye surgeries.  Although in their later years Dad and Mom used to point out “fat” people they saw (who knows why?) Dad always told me that I carried my weight “well” and didn’t put me in that same category.

Beautiful Flowers that I received at home from my workplace - Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. I wanted to share them via photo because I am not taking them to the funeral home. They all knew how special my Dad was to me. 

Mr. Strasburger, the "Dutchman", was probably the nicest man I ever met. He was always smiling and laughing whenever a bunch of us were at his house. He always had some interesting antiques like these mechanical iron coin banks and he could tell you everything there was to know about them. I had never seen anything like that stuff and it was fascinating to hear him talk. He gave some of us a one ounce 'bar' of silver for high school graduation. It was beautiful and unique. I still have that and I always think of him when I look at it. He was one of a kind. To Suzie, Nancy, my buddy Scott, and all of your families, I am truly sorry for your loss. May you all find peace in this time.

I love you Dad....I treasure all of the time we had together. I could not be more to proud to be you son. You have been such a wonderful influence to me and my family. We all really miss you and will do our best to live our lives to make you proud! Scott   




Where do I begin to really tell all I know and love about Dutch  Strasburger.  I met him when I was Patti’s little sister. He was the nicest  polite gentleman I had ever met .  He and Pattie dated through high school and then became a member of our family when they married on September 11,1953. He continued to be a superb thoughtful Gentleman for the rest of his life. I will miss DUTCHY DEE and all the love and affection he gave to me during his life time. Pleasant sailing, Dutch!  Love, Mary

Bob was one of the nicest men I’ve ever known.  I met Bob when I started working at Chaney’s around 1975,  he was easy to get to know and always there for any of us who need his advice. I have never forgotten the kindness and help he freely gave to all of us.  My deepest condolences to the family

Dad was the smartest person I ever knew.

He was the breadwinner in the family because he thought that it was important for mom to stay home to raise us kids.
Dad played softball for years and I enjoyed going to his games. He took us to Reds games and got us popcorn in a paper megaphone.
He owned a Chicken Delight in Franklin for awhile. 
We went on several family vacations but the one I remember most was to Sanibel Island. He took off extra time from work and we had a great time on the beach searching for shells.
Mom would get on him for not making reservations ahead of time but it always worked out except for the time we had to sleep in the back of a fruit stand.
He wanted all of his children to graduate from college and we did and he was proud of all of us.
I inherited his Accounting skills. 
He loved antiquing and going to flea markets and auctions. They were never too far away. 
He loved collecting carnival glass, marbles, hummels, gold and silver. 
Dad was a talker and could talk for hours. I remember Joby sitting and listening to him and soaking in all of his knowledge.
He loved to watch Steph and Matt play sports in school.
He always called me Nance and I liked that - no one else called me that.
He loved peanut butter and would just eat it out of the jar with a spoon. He loved anything sweet. He just enjoyed eating. 
When I got groceries for mom and dad he would say Nance you know just what I like as he opened a Suzy Q and bit into it. 
I took care of mom and dad in their home as long as I could because that was dad’s wishes. He would always thank me for helping them as I left and was glad that family was near.
I really miss talking to dad.

I witnessed to dad and talked to him about Gods promise in John 3:16 when I was a teenager and as an adult.  Dad agreed with God’s promise of salvation so I am sure that there is a celebration going on in heaven for him.
