I am lucky enough to have had my Mamaw in my life for 45 years. She was a very special woman in my life and will be greatly missed. She was beautiful inside and out.

I remember going to card parties with Mamaw and Papaw and trying to stay out of trouble. I just enjoyed being around them both. I know I was loved so much by them. I also have memories of going to Cowan Lake and camping, fishing and hanging out. 

When I stayed overnight at Mamaw and Papaw's house, they spoiled me. I loved spending time with them.

When my son, Ryan was born 23 years ago, we wanted him to grow up and call her Mamaw Verle. He couldn't verbalize it very well, and called her Mamaw Girl. He honestly thought that was her true name. She loved to be called Mamaw Girl and beamed with pride when the kids called her that.

Mamaw's only great great grandchild, Levi Ryan, was born on February 2, 2017. Mamaw was able to meet him and give him a kiss on the head before she passed away. That made me very happy to see. We also got a 5 generation picture taken that day. I am so glad we did this.

I love my Mamaw with all of my heart and know that she will be my special angel until we meet again.

Mamaw always put others first.  She took care of all of her kids and grand kids and was so genuinely nice and kind.  I think because she grew up in the Depression, so she knew what was most important, God and family.  

I have many memories of her that will always warm my heart, such as the way she always said it was "hotter than a firecracker" in the summer time.  Or, how she would loudly exclaim, "Robert!" when Papaw would do something outrageous (which was often).  Another favorite expression of hers was "stick in the mud."  To this day I am not exactly sure what that is.  She called me that a lot when I was little.  I am sure it is bad, but life was happy and good back then when you were with Mamaw. 

Like Gary said, she was a fantastic cook.  I remember as a teenager going to visit on Sundays after church (it seemed like every Sunday and we always had delicious fried chicken with mashed potatoes and wonderful brown gravy).  Thanksgiving dinner was always great, and could she ever run that electric knife!  

No reminiscence would be complete without a mention of her hair.  She was a proper, old-fashioned lady who went to the beauty parlor almost every week of her life.   
Her hair was always perfect, and if it rained you could be assured she had on her trusty see-through plastic head cover.  Even in her final days when her mind was cloudy, I could get her to smile and stay focused for a while by telling her how great her hair looked.       

One of my favorite later memories was of how she cheated at cards and Scrabble.  I do not think there was ever enough probable cause developed to charge her with cheating.  (She either never really cheated, or was just that adept at hiding it.)  It became our running family joke that she must be cheating whenever she would win.  She was always in denial and acted irritated with us when we accused her, but she had a great sense of humor about it.     

I am thankful she was my grandma.  She made all of our lives better.  We will miss her, but we do not need to mourn because she has gone home.

Aunt Verle was such a special aunt. We enjoyed driving over from Virginia to see her in Springboro, and then later when she was in Brookville. She was a great cook and had several dishes everyone enjoyed. We really liked the wilted lettuce with special dressing, and her swiss steak, which inspired us so much that we prepare it ourselves on occasion (and can't help but think about Aunt Verle). 

One thing she would do (much to my dismay, and Jay's) was collect dirty dishes from all of the neighbors before we got there to visit, and then she presented them to Jay & I to wash after eating a wonderful meal. Just kidding. We did do the dishes, but we're pretty sure they were just Aunt Verle's from the one meal. One thing for sure: the food was SOOOO good.

Aunt Verle, and Uncle Bob, were both very active in their church, and we really appreciated going to Sunday School and church services when we were with them on Sundays. 

One of the best times we had with Aunt Verle was when Arlene (her sister from Idaho), Jay & Marva, and Cheri & I surprised her for her 80th birthday. We found out then that she had quite the strong heart, because it was a total surprise. Arlene walked up next to her at a pre-arranged yard sale (that sneaky Janice!), and said "hey you look just like my sister." It took a minute more to recognize that she WAS her sister, and that's when got her to a chair. Of course, Janice took a lot of heat for that, keeping it from her Mom and all.

We loved Aunt Verle a lot, and will miss her, of course. But, here's the deal. We'll see her again someday in heaven, and that will be so sweet.

We are SO saddened by the loss of our beautiful Aunt Verle !!  She has had a wonderful life there in Ohio with her family by her side and watching them grow.....not only sharing her life with them but teaching them the importance of knowing their Lord and Savior !!  I didn't get to see Verle and Bob too much during my life because we life so far apart but I will always remember how happy they were !!  They would make a trek out to Idaho almost every year and it was such a treat for us kids....I remember Uncle Bob would bring each of us 4 kids a silver dollar each time.....and that was like pure gold to us !!  And of course, Bob always had some coon stories to tell us and all of us were always in stitches which seemed to be his expertise !!  As for Aunt Verle, she was a beautiful soul , more subdued than Uncle Bob but always pristine with her beautiful white hair and always fashionable !!  She used to bring us girls a box of Avon products when she was an Avon representative.........we were always so thrilled because we were kind of the hicks from the sticks and she lived in the big city whereas we had never even had Avon in our vocabulary !!  It was like Christmas when she opened up that box !!  They loved their family and they loved them right back.......which was obvious by the wonderful care and love they gave her at the end of her life when she needed them the most !!  She raised them up right and taught them about the most important things in life.......the Savior !!  And now, they are comforted to know for sure that she is resting in the arms of Jesus now and someday we will all reunite in heaven !!
