Virgie Price greeted all the circumstances life presented her with a smile, and cheerfully shared with others in any way she could. Born second child of eight to Jesse and Verona Lawson on 11 October 1926, caring and helping were the natural fabric of her life. Her marriage to Harvey Price was happy and full, and she made sure her sons Randall and Tracy had every possible opportunity in life, encouraging their interests and activities in the community and giving strong moral guidance. She was a tireless worker for the Scouts, church and school activities. She cooked and baked every day and tended her gardens and orchard. Family was always her first priority and brought her great joy. For fifty eight years on N. Marshall Rd. she loved to invite all her large family for holiday meals, with dinner prayer led first by her father, then in turn by her mother then elder sister. Virgie was famous for baking, and her legendary chocolate squares brought her many fans. After Harvey's untimely death in 1971, she rejoined the workforce first at Central Pastry and then until her retirement at McAlpin's/Dillard's at the Towne Mall. All her life was spent in Middletown but she was a fearless traveler, leading many adventures around the country with her sisters, family and friends. With nieces and her sister-in-law she made several visits to France, Belgium and Italy. Her persistent and sincere friendliness allowed no language barriers and she was immediately liked everywhere she went. She always baked two of everything so one could be given away, and her pocketbook was always filled with candy for the children she met. She had very strong opinions, however, and was not afraid to express them even on the quality of a musical performance in Notre Dame in Paris. For many years she was active with the Church of God in Middletown. In recent years failing memory brought her to the compassionate care at Springhills Middletown where she passed peacefully from earthly troubles during the night Saturday 1 March 2014, her loyal cat Sheba ever by her side.
