

William H.(Herb) Trimblepassed away on May 3, 2015. He was 85 years old. Herb was bornon Curryer Rd in Middletown, Ohioon March 7, 1930 to William Kelly and Cora May (Wells) Trimble.Hegraduated from Monroe High School in 1948, where hewas active insports and earneda football scholarship tothe University of Louisville. Herb married the love of his life, Barbara Greenfield, onOctober 21,1950, and they were later blessed with 3 children.
Driving became a passion at a young age: he always bragged that his first fender-bender happened at age six when his father let him pull the family car into the garage, but his legs were too short to apply enough pressure to stop the car before it hit the back wall. Anavidrace cardriver whose career beganin 1951, Herbraced atDarlingtonand the NASCAR Grand National. He finished in the top ten at the Dayton Speedway and is listed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings Hall of Fame. Races on the sandat Daytona Beach, Florida were fun for him.
He joinedthe armed forces in 1952 and served as a multi-engine helicopter mechanic in Korea. He was awarded “Soldier of the Week” by his commanding officers before he left basic training, and was honorably discharged in 1954. After returning home, he enjoyed a thirty-year career with the Middletown Fire Department, eventually serving as Deputy Chief until his retirement in 1983. Herb and Barbara both held real estate licenses, and hewasactive in the building and renovationof several houses in the Middletown area. He builthisdream home in 1972. He alsoran a Mac Toolsroutefor many years and enjoyedrepairing and reselling cars.
Herb had numerous hobbies.He loved to travel and went onfamilyvacations each summer, eventually visiting all 48 states in the continental US, plus Mexico and Canada.His proudesttrips were when the entire family hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back out (with anovernight stay) in 1970, and visiting Disney World in Florida, the 1st year it was open.He held private andcommercial pilot licenses and was part owner of several planes over the years. He especially enjoyed taking friends and family for their "first airplane ride”. Herb lovedyoung people and dressed asSanta Claus for theGeckelerNursery School for it's last 30 years. He was interested and involved in the lives of his children, their spouses, and especially his grandchildren and was very proud of all they had accomplished and achieved in their lives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dr. Mark Trimble; and his sister WinifredSlimak.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara;daughterRobynTrimbleof Flagstaff, AZ;daughterKristinWisemanandher husband Orvilleof Flagstaff, AZ;daughter-in-law Shelley Trimble of Louisville, KY;grandchildren Emily,Grant, Natalie, and AnnaWiseman of Flagstaff, AZ andJessicaand LucasTrimble of Austin, TX, andLouisville, KY; sisters RubyHighley, Mildred Pierce, Lucymae McNabb and brother-in-law Fred Greenfield of Middletown;and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.Herb wasfriendly to all and was supported by many wonderful friends inthe last months of his life.His family would like to extend special thanksto the great staff ofSmall House #102 at Otterbein;Herb’s physician, Dr. DougGaker; the members of the Monroe and Middletown High School graduating classes of 1948 for their visits and calls; the wonderful friends, nieces, and nephews who made many visits and phone calls and offered support to Barbara; and to Rev. Dr. Reginald Olson and Rev. John Dick, who visited with Herb for many months, teaching him about Jesus and helped him find his way to heaven
Funeral arrangements were made by Breitenbach McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be heldat noon on Saturday July 11, 2015, at St.Luke Presbyterian Church on Walton Ct across from Herb's house.Food will be availablein the fellowship hall following the service for anyone who would like to join us.
