Alicia Perez Valdez

Sister Alicia Valdez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and devoted servant of the Lord, passed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on the evening of January 28th, surrounded by her family. She was 92.

Born in Allende, Nuevo León, Mexico on May 23, 1932, to Manuel Perez and Josefa Tamez, Sister Alicia leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. She is survived by her children, Bishop Jesse Valdez, Edgardo Valdez, Humberto Valdez, and Teresa Valdez-Thiede, as well as twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, her brother, José Guadalupe Perez, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 54 years, Pastor Edgardo Valdez, who predeceased her in 2009.

In 1964, Sister Alicia and Edgardo bravely moved from Madero, Texas, to Reedley, California, embarking on a new chapter. That same year, Sister Alicia experienced a profound spiritual awakening, receiving the Holy Ghost in Cutler, California, and being baptized by Pastor Reyes Coronado. Their journey eventually led them to the Bay Area in 1967, where they became pillars of their community.

For over three decades, Sister Alicia and Pastor Edgardo lovingly pastored the Apostolic Tabernacle in Redwood City. Together, they nurtured the spiritual growth of countless individuals, leading their congregation with unwavering dedication. Sister Alicia’s love for the Lord’s work was evident in her tireless service, from preparing meals for construction workers, church members, and those in need, to serving on the Dorcas Northern Pacific Coast District Board. She was always ready to lend a helping hand within her church and community.

Sister Alicia’s life was a testament to her deep and abiding faith. She approached each day with a heart overflowing with love, kindness, and devotion to God, her family, and her community. Her commitment to the Apostolic faith permeated every aspect of her life, from her heartfelt prayers to her selfless acts of service. She possessed a remarkable ability to uplift those around her, making them feel valued and cherished.

Beyond her ministry, Sister Alicia worked diligently to support her family. From her early years as a migrant worker to her work cleaning homes and as a seamstress, she embraced every role with grace and strength. She was a devoted mother and a steadfast support to her husband in his pastoral calling.

Sister Alicia will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and boundless love for her family. She was a beacon of grace and strength, and though she is no longer physically present, her example of prayer, fasting, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire us all.

La Hermana Alicia Valdez, amada esposa, madre, abuela, bisabuela, Hermana y devota sierva del Señor, pasó a los brazos amorosos de Jesucristo la tarde del 28 de enero, rodeada de su familia. Tenía 92 años.

Nacida en Allende, Nuevo León, México, el 23 de mayo de 1932, hija de Manuel Pérez y Josefa Tamez, la Hermana Alicia deja un legado de amor y fe. Le sobreviven sus hijos, el Obispo Jesse Valdez, Edgardo Valdez, Humberto Valdez y Teresa Valdez-Thiede, así como doce nietos, dieciséis bisnietos, su hermano, José Guadalupe Pérez, y numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas. Ahora está reunida con su amado esposo de 54 años, el Pastor Edgardo Valdez, quien falleció antes que ella en el 2009.

En 1964, la Hermana Alicia y Edgardo se mudaron valientemente de Madero, Texas, a Reedley, California, y se embarcaron en un nuevo capítulo. Ese mismo año, la Hermana Alicia experimentó un profundo despertar espiritual, recibió el Espíritu Santo en Cutler, California, y fue bautizada por el Pastor Reyes Coronado. Su viaje finalmente los llevó al Área de la Bahía en 1967, donde se convirtieron en pilares de su comunidad.

Durante más de tres décadas, la Hermana Alicia y el Pastor Edgardo pastorearon con amor el Tabernáculo Apostólico en Redwood City. Juntos, nutrieron el crecimiento espiritual de innumerables personas, guiando a su congregación con una dedicación inquebrantable. El amor de la Hermana Alicia por la obra del Señor era evidente en su incansable servicio, desde preparar comidas para trabajadores de la construcción, miembros de la iglesia y los necesitados, hasta servir en la Junta del Distrito de la Costa del Pacífico Norte de Dorcas.

Siempre estaba dispuesta a brindar una mano amiga dentro de su iglesia y comunidad.

La vida de la Hermana Alicia fue un testimonio de su fe profunda y duradera. Abordaba cada día con un corazón rebosante de amor, bondad y devoción a Dios, su familia y su comunidad. Su compromiso con la fe apostólica permeaba cada aspecto de su vida, desde sus oraciones sinceras hasta sus actos desinteresados de servicio. Poseía una notable capacidad para elevar a quienes la rodeaban, haciéndoles sentir valorados y queridos.

Más allá de su ministerio, la Hermana Alicia trabajó diligentemente para apoyar a su familia. Desde sus primeros años como trabajadora migrante hasta su trabajo limpiando casas y como costurera, abrazó cada rol con gracia y fortaleza. Fue una madre devota y un apoyo constante para su esposo en su llamado pastoral.

La Hermana Alicia será recordada por su espíritu gentil, su fe inquebrantable y su amor ilimitado por su familia. Fue un faro de gracia y fortaleza, y aunque ya no está físicamente presente, su ejemplo de oración, ayuno y fe inquebrantable seguirá inspirándonos a todos.
