Alex was born on April 11, 1973 in Palo Alto, CA to Arturo and Lolita Banez. He grew up in Santa Clara where he played football from early childhood through high school. Because of his love for the ocean and islands, he moved to Hawaii, where he raised his son, Andrew Kalani – truly the love of his life.
Alex had a passion for creating art. He loved to draw and paint and shared his art pieces with friends and family. He loved his family, his motorcycle, and exploring outdoors. He was best known for his goofiness, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Alex was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Kalani. He is survived by his mother Lolita, his father Arturo, his sister Angie, his brother Alan, his dog Kali, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
