

Mr. Hill accepted Christ at an early age and received his early education in the Marshall and Longview, Tx area.
Hayward moved to the Oakland East Bay in the late 1940's. He became a construction laborer and joined the Hod Carrier Union 166, where here worked for over 30 years. Of those 30 years, almost 20 was with O. C. Smith company. Hayward Hill met his life partner Versa Lee Washington in the early 1950's, whom he married on March 7, 1964. To this union two daughters were born. Mr. Hill had a love outdoors and was an avid fisherman and boater. Hayward hosted weekly fishing trips to Clear Lake or the Delta where he often caught so many fish, he had enough to sell to friends and family.
Mr. Hill lived in West Oakland for over 50 years, where he became a father figure to many in Wood street area. Mr. Hill would fix and repair bikes, fill balls with air, and try to offer a safe haven for children in the area. He truly embodied the theme of neighborhood, as he would watch over neighbors homes, give rides and be available to help wherever he could.Mr. Hill, was preceded in death by his siblings, Essie Mae Reese, Luther Couch Arberzine Francois ; daughter, Patricia Ann Hill; grandchildren Carol Plaze-Higgenbotham and Maurice Roberts. Hayward Hill, affectionally known as Paw Paw, leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, Versa Hill. Daughters, Betty Anne Jefferson, Charlotte Grayson, Cheri Whitehead ( Herbert) and Cynthia Hill; Grandchildren, Denise Hammonds, Charles Calhoun, George Victor, Celestine Victor, Vickie Jefferson, Eric Jefferson, Chandra Jackson, Aston Jones (Andre) and Corbin Whitehead, host of great grand and great great grandchildren , nieces ,nephews and cousins that will cherish his memory.
