Honorato, more known as “Orly” was born on December 22, 1948 to Graciano Ilagan and Dionisia Arañez in San Luis, Batangas, Philippines. He graduated from Western Philippine College, Batangas City with a BS degree in Political Science. After graduation, he moved to Mindoro and taught at Pambisan Socorro College for 2 years.
In 1974, Honorato moved to Manila and started working at the Bureau of Customs. He was assigned to the Tourist Duty Free shop, where he met Nellie. They immediately hit it off and married only 2 years later, in 1976. They had three children: McDonald (Don-Don), Princess, and Philipp; and five grandchildren, Brian Philipp, Adrian James, Patrick Louis, Charmaine Kailani and Kassandra Mxcine.
Honorato retired in 2014 after 40 years of working as a Bonded warehouseman at the Bureau of Customs. He spent most of his time with his granddaughter, Kakay, before moving to the United States in July 2015. Not used to just staying at home, Honorato decided to work again. He started working at Lucky Chances Casino in Daly City, CA, as a security officer but was forced to resign when he had a stroke in October 2015.
Honorato was a sports enthusiast when he was younger. He played softball when he was in high school and basketball during his college days. And when he got older, he played tennis, bowling, and golf. He loved watching basketball. He loved the Lakers and would always argue with his son, Philipp, or his grandson, Patrick, because they would always cheer for the Warriors. You can consider him an avid fan of the Warriors, but only if Stephen Curry wasn’t on the team.
He also loved karaoke. Karaoke was his passion. He loved to sing and did so with his heart.
One of the kindest souls on this planet, Honorato was a selfless, family-oriented man who was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.
Everyone who knew Honorato knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle, and peaceful person, and that he loved his family very much. He passed away at Washington Hospital with his daughter beside him, holding his hands.
Honorato was predeceased by his parents, Graciano & Dionisia Ilagan, and his brothers, Braulio (Jun) & Isagani (Gani). He is survived by his three sisters, Isabelita (Lita), Minerva (Miner) & Salud; his children, Mc Donald, Princess & Philipp (wife Kate); and his grandchildren, Brian, AJ, Patrick, Charmaine & Kassandra (Kakay).
