Jerri A Ortega

Jerri Ortega passed away peacefully in the early afternoon of August 21st after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family along with caregivers during the last days of her life. Jerri was born on September 22, 1945 and was raised with her brother Joe Alarid by their mother, Minerva Sanchez Alarid.

Jerri lived at the DeRose Garden Apartments in San Jose for many years where she was an active community member in all the activities that the apartments hosted where she touched so many lives and met many life-long friends. Jerri was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children and granddaughters and embraced every moment with them. Jerri was also known as 'Tia' to her nieces Jeanette Cusick and Joetta Poreider and Nephews Joseph Alarid Jr and Michael Alarid. She loved her nieces and nephews and had fond memories of watching them grow up and raise their own children. Jerri loved to laugh and was often making jokes. She had such a sweet soul and would often lend a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear. Jerri loved listening to music, especially the music in her Bible study class, she would often hum the melody while she rode her scooter around the complex. She loved watching the Price is Right and Young and the Restless. She was our family rock. The glue that held us together after our father passed away in 1999. Jerri had many close friends, and will be missed dearly.

Jerri is survived by her brother Joe Alarid Sr, her two children, Angel Ortega Jr and Linda Ortega, her two grandchildren Lilyan and Leiya Arambula and great granddaughter Elaina Centeno. Her Nieces Jeanette Cusick and Joetta Poreider and Nephews Joseph Alarid Jr and Michael Alarid. She was preceded in death by her husband Angel Ortega Sr., and her mother Minerva Sanchez Alarid whom both she loved and missed dearly.

Funeral Services will be held for Jerri on September 19th, 2019 at Lima Milpitas-Fremont Mortuary and Cedar Lawn Cemetery located at 48800 Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont Ca 94539. Services will begin promptly at 12noon.
