December 25, 2017 at the age of 67. As a lifelong Catholic, she knew
Jesus and the salvation for her soul that Jesus offers each of us as a gift.
She went home to be with her Lord on the day that we celebrate His birth.
Joetta had a wonderful sense of humor, always quick with the snappy
comeback. She had a most generous heart and loved to give to her family
and friends. She generously bestowed upon others anything from a simple
kitchen gadget to a luxury vacation. She loved to cook and share food with
others, especially enjoying the pot lucks with co workers. She had a very
intelligent mind with an ability to remember details that would escape most
of us. You didn't want to challenge her at Jeopardy and she would have
relished to chance to Beat Bobby Flay!
Joetta was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 21 years, Ronald
R. Silva, and by her loving parents, John and Josephine Fazio.
She is survived by her sister and best friend, Katherine Faria of San
Leandro.
She was brother-in-law to Ronald Faria of San Leandro, Patricia Silva of
Ukiah, Liz Silva-DeAnda, Kathy Silva-Dunlap and Michael Silva of San
Leandro. Niece to Lalla Annetta and Uncle Bertino of Italy. Joetta was
stepmother to 4 children, grandmother to 12 and great grandmother to 11
children. She had many nieces and nephews.
Joetta was BFF for more than 60 years to Karen Lusk of San Leandro and
for more than 50 years to Karen Wolfer of Bismark, ND.
Joetta had a generous heart and a fun loving spirit. She loved to travel. Her
travels included trips and cruises to such places as Italy, Australia, Costa
Rica, and Mexico as well as many destinations within the USA. Her favorite
destinations were Hawaii and Disneyland. She generously blessed family
and friends with trips as well, always with many amenities.
Always proud of her Italian heritage, Joetta was a former President of the
Alpicella Ladies Italian Club of Alameda, and a former Recording Secretary
to the Ligure Italian Ladies Club.
Joetta was also an avid sports fan. She was former Recording Secretary
for the Oakland A's Booster Club, and had been a season ticket holder for
the A's and the Raiders. Joetta and her husband Ronnie enjoyed horse
racing and spent many weekends at the track. She was a student of the
sport and knew a lot about the horses, the jockeys and the tracks. She was
a "big spender" sometimes betting as much as $2.00 on a race. Casinos
and bingo tournaments were also favorite pastimes for Joetta.
Her working career spanned almost 50 years at only 2 jobs. She was
employed for 26 years at Oakland Scavenger/Waste Management. Being a
people person, she could still recall names and stories of her customers,
the drivers, and her co-workers. But Joetta found her true calling as a
travel agent for AAA for more than 22 years. She delighted in booking trips
and cruises for her clients. She was considered an expert on Disneyland
and claimed that she could sell Mickey Mouse a trip to Disneyland!
We will truly miss Joetta and her generous heart, her fun loving spirit, her
sense of humor...and her cooking.
