

Mr. Ngan Kan Yu, was born November 26, 1934, in Fujian Yongchun County, Mr. Ngan’s father was a business man in Vietnam, after the 8 years war to Japan, Mr Ngan’s father brought everyone in the family to Vietnam and settled there. During the time in Vietnam, Mr. Ngan was teaching Chinese in primary school. In 1955, Mr Ngan went to Cambodia to teach Chinese, and later went back to mainland China to study, and in 1965 graduated from Guangxi Normal University. After the graduation, Mr. Ngan settled in Guangxi Yishan County, mainly engaged in Chinese language education.
During the work, Mr. Ngan was very keen in extracurricular activities, Mr. Ngan had the opportunity to meet Li Siu Ky, they married the following year and gave birth to their daughter, Ngan Shan Hung. Later the Cultural Revolution broke out in China, in order to escape the Cultural Revolution, Mr and Mrs Ngan and Shan Hung, with the help of Mr. Ngan’s sister, moved to Hong Kong in early 80s and Mr. Ngan’s son – Ngan Chun Wai born in 1985 in Hong Kong.
1988 Ngan’s family emigrated to the United States, both Mr and Mrs Ngan have to work in the United States during that time and could not spend much time with Chun Wai and Shan Hung. Chun Wai was sent to nursery, Shan Hung was unable to adapt to the learning environment and thus drop out of school. Considering the health of both children, Mrs Ngan was forced to return to Hong Kong and temporarily separated with her husband. Mr. Ngan still worked diligently to support his family from oversea, he went back to Hong Kong at least once per year to visit both Chun Wai and Shan Hung. The time Mr. Ngan stayed was short but especially memorable.
In 2002, Chun Wai was already 16 years old. Since the opportunity for him to go to college in Hong Kong was very limited at that time. Mr. Ngan led him to study in the US. Mr. Ngan had to pay the tuition of Junwei and the mortgage at the same time. It was a tough time for him, but with perseverance, he still managed to support Chun Wai to graduate in University. He was 77 years old at that time, every night he returned from work with tired body, sitting on the sofa and fell asleep. Mr. Ngan fully retired in 2013, and he also came all the way from USA to China to attend Chun Wai wedding in 2014.
Mr. Ngan is a honest, inoffensive, friendly and humble person, he was interested in social dance, and made a lot of friends. Mr Ngan became a grandfather last year, filled with joy and happiness, life is full and colorful at that time. Mr. Ngan worked half of his life for the family, just as everyone thought he could happily retire and lived a life with his grandchildren. However, nothing last forever, Mr. Ngan suddenly passed away due to heart failure, ended on January 28, 2016. Fortunately he has gone without much pain and with help of Pastor Sammy, he became a Christian. Mr. Ngan, you will be missed, we wish you in heaven with the Lord and are looking forward to seeing you again!
