Nguyễn Thiện Lực Luke began his life on April 27, 1940 in Sài-Gòn, Việt-Nam, the youngest of nine children born to Mr. Nguyễn Văn Thêm and Mrs. Dương Thị Quýt. He served in the Republic of Vietnam Navy, wherein he rose in rank, ultimately commanding his own vessel with pride. After the Vietnam conflict, Lực helped his next oldest brother’s entire family and several friends to find a new home in the United States, first in Wisconsin, where he attended college (and nurtured a lifelong love of the Green Bay Packers), and then in California. While there, he learned that Nguyễn Thị Bạch-Yến, the younger sister of a childhood friend, had immigrated to Texas. Lực reconnected with her and the two married, settling in the Bay Area where he worked as a software professional to help support his wife and their two children, Nguyễn Thiện Andrew Anh-Vũ and Nguyễn Thiện Andrea Yến-Lam.
Lực passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on February 3, 2025. He is survived by his wife and two children.
His memory lives on in our lives and we will fondly remember his love for his family, the many road trips he took us on, and the silly antics he did to keep us entertained. We are grateful for the time he spent with us; the lessons he taught us; and his legacy of responsibility to our community, appreciation of hard work, and valuing the importance of education.
