

Mary Brown Monzon was born on May 16, 1916 to the parents of John and Martina Brown in Noveleta, Cavite, Philippines. Mary's mother died when she was very young and was separated from her siblings. She spent her younger years living with relatives and doing different chores for them. Mary encountered many obstacles during her childhood, but always had the strength to overcome them.
She married Jovito Monzon in the early '40's. Mary was a homemaker and raised her children Oreng, Vedasto, Ermina and Linda in Dasmarinas, Cavite until the late '70's. In 1973, her brother John Brown Jr. visited the Philippines and Mary realized she had been an American citizen this whole time due to her father being an American. In 1977, Mary began preparing her family to make the journey to the U.S.
Mary and her family arrived to the U.S. in 1980 and lived in Santa Clara County. She was a true nurturer and helped take care of other relatives and children while establishing a new life for her family. Mary loved being around people, especially children. She always told great stories about her life in the Philippines while enjoying a good meal or snack with her guests. Mary always welcomed guests with open arms and constantly put the needs of other before hers. Family was always her priority and constantly instilled in her children and grandchildren, "Gusto ko sama sama kayo," which means, "I always want all of you to be together."
Mary's life is a true story of perseverance, compassion and love. She will truly be missed and will never be forgotten. She is survived by her brother, Bill Brown, four children, Oreng Timbang, Vedasto Monzon, Ermina Monzon, and Linda Monzon, 11 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
