It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Margaret Mei Lai Yeung, who gracefully passed into God’s hands on the evening of July 17, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in Hong Kong in 1941, she was the fourth of six children, growing up with two elder brothers, an elder sister, a younger sister, and a younger brother. In 1954, she was baptized into the Catholic Church in Hong Kong, receiving the Christian name Margaret, a name she carried with quiet devotion throughout her life. A bright and dedicated student, she completed her high school education in 1963 and earned her in-service educator diploma in 1971.
Her teaching career began in 1963, nurturing young minds in elementary schools across Hong Kong for over three decades until her retirement in 1994. Between 1976 and 1986, she also pursued her entrepreneurial spirit by operating kindergartens, helping shape the early education landscape in her community.
In 1994, amidst the impending handover of Hong Kong to China, she immigrated with her family to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she assisted her husband in managing the family’s optical lens wholesale business until 2000. She then embraced retirement and, in 2004, settled in Milpitas, California.
Even in retirement, her devotion to her family never waned. She spent her later years selflessly caring for her grandchildren, offering warmth, wisdom, and unconditional love that will remain with them forever.
A woman of resilience and grace, she faced her health challenges in recent years with quiet strength. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2018, followed by Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Dementia in 2021. Despite these struggles, her love for life and family never dimmed. She entered hospice care in July 2025 and passed peacefully on July 17.
She lived a full and vibrant life. She was passionate about traveling and explored more than 25 countries. She loved playing mahjong, cooking and savoring good food, shopping, and simply enjoying life’s joys with those around her.
Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family.
