On October 8, 1993, a precious little boy was born at Washington Hospital, Fremont, California. Proud parents, Amy and Noli Gatchalian were ecstatic and welcomed their precious one who we knew as Nolan. When we first saw Nolan, he looked like a healthy, happy baby but as days passed, we learned that he had a heart condition. This devastated our family. Soon after, he was cared for by great doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital in Oakland.
Nolan was a happy baby. He loved being around people of all ages. Although he had a heart condition, he had a heart of gold. He loved people and was determined to live life to the fullest! We are all proud of his will and courage. He did not let his condition bring him down. Nolan loved the adventure and tried activities others would not dare. Last year, he vacationed in Hawaii with his mom and her co-workers. He had the time of his life. He parasailed, jet skied, and even zip lined. They often took vacations to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and this past May, they flew to Florida to Disney World.
Nolan graduated from Logan High School in 2011. After graduation, he went to the Philippines to visit and fell in love with the people and the atmosphere. He immediately told his mom that he would like to pursue his studies in the Philippines and attended LaSalle College. He met many great friends and enjoyed his stay. There he learned to live on his own and experienced the life he wanted to challenge. After a few months, he fell ill and came back to the states for treatments. When he gained back his strength, he was ready for the next adventure and was once again happy.
After a year or so, Nolan's health started to decline but he did not show his pain. He didn't want anyone to worry nor did he want his health to slow him down. We were so proud of his courage and perseverance. We will greatly miss Nolan.
"We live a rushed and busy life. Always thinking we have later or tomorrow to do things not realizing everyone has an expiration date. And only God knows when. We're too busy to take the "Time" for the people we love because we think they will always be there. TIME makes the memories. Without "Time" there will be no memories, no past, no future. I always believed you were strong! Strong enough to always be there again tomorrow. Now I can no longer laugh with you and tell you I love you. I hope you knew just how much.. I miss you already! I wish you find the peaceful ever after in Heaven. Rest in Peace now Nolan. I Love You!" - A.M.
