"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
Pepito Bartolome Miguel, a beloved husband, father, brother, and all around “MacGyver” passed away peacefully following a very brief and sudden infection. Known affectionately as "Pepe" or "Peping," he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, technical mastery, and a boundless willingness to help anyone in need.
From the Philippines to the Golden State
Born in Tabuk City, Kalinga Province, Philippines to Estanislao and Emelia Bartolome Miguel, Pepito spent his formative years in Laoag City, graduating from Ilocos Norte High School in 1958. He later immigrated to the United States of America in 1970.
He first settled in the small farming community of San Martin, California near Gilroy, living with his Auntie Terry Fedalizo and her family. While working the land, he pursued his education at Gavilan College, successfully earning his Federal Aviation Agency certificate in 1971.
A Life of Service and Skill
In 1972, Pepito married Rose Mary Menor. Together, they settled in Sunnyvale, California and raised two children, Christy and Greg.
Pepito began his career as a Welder for Electroglas, a pioneer in the semiconductor industry, where he dedicated 30 years to the profession. He was a versatile craftsman whose technical skill was matched only by his reliability. He was often called upon by friends and family for his willingness to always help fix, build, repair or solve anything. He was often compared to the iconic 1980’s TV character MacGyver, known for his resourceful problem-solving skills using household items to create and fix complex items. For over 40 years, Pepito was a foundational member of the St. Cyprian Church community. His involvement was both spiritual and practical; he served as a long-time usher and volunteered, often maintaining the parish grounds, helping with seasonal setups, and providing handyman repairs.
A Guardian of the Community
Even in retirement, Pepito remained active, balancing global travel with family and friends and committing to his neighborhood. For over 15 years, he served as a crossing guard for the City of Sunnyvale, ensuring safe passage for students at the corner of St. Cyprian and Vargas Elementary until the conclusion of the 2023 school year.
Family and Legacy
Pepito’s memory will be cherished by those who survived him:
Children: Christy and husband Antolin “Alexis” Dabon (and their son, Nolan), Greg and wife Loraine Andaya (and their daughters, Azalea and Ezra) along with their mother Rose Mary Miguel
Siblings: Ophelia Eugenio (Joven), Alberto (Eden), Erlinda Reyes and Rodolfo (Teresita).
He will be remembered by his family, friends, and fellow parishioners not just for his ability to fix anything that was broken, but for his constant readiness to show up whenever a need arose.
