Roger Powell passed away on July 22, 2013. He will be truly missed by all of those who knew him, including his family, friends and neighbors. Roger is survived by his daughters Gretchen Kyle and Ginny Powell of Fremont, CA, son-in-laws Paul Kyle and Paul McClintick, many grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Roger was born in Norcross, GA, the son of William Cleveland Powell and Lillie Delong Guthrie on Feb 17, 1933. He was one of eight children. Roger joined the Navy in 1951 and honorably served his country until 1955. His duty on the USS Rendova took him to locations in Japan, Korea and other Pacific locations.
Roger worked numerous jobs over the years, the longest lasting taking him to retirement was with as a long-haul truck driver with Hadley Trucking.
After retirement, Roger moved to Twain, CA and settled in his house on the river. He truly enjoyed his work in the yard. A day did not go by without neighbors and passers-by seeing Roger on his riding lawnmower, working in his yard. Roger always had a smile and a funny joke prepared for each person his spoke to.
Services for Roger will be held in Fremont, CA at Cedar Lawn Cemetery (408-263-2868) on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
