She had 3 brothers, Elmer, Ralph and Jim and two sisters, Lavenna and Jaunita.
She met and married John Desmond Durney in 1939 and together they had 6 children:
Ray, LaVar, JoAnn, Craig, Wayne and Jim. They lived on a farm in Preston Idaho until
1951 and then moved to Kent Washington for 2 years and then on to Bellevue Wash.
where they lived until 1960 at which time they moved to sunny Calif. to be close to Velda's
youngest brother Jim. They lived in the San Jose/Saratoga area until 1966 when she moved
again for the last time to Fremont, Ca.. Velda suffered many hardships and heartbreaks in
her life but always had a smile and a willing hand to help someone else.
Some of her favorite things in life were: bowling, tortellini's, chocolate, bacon crocheting and the SF Giants.
She was preceded in death by her husband Desmond, her sons Ray, LaVar and Craig.
Velda was a kind and caring mother not only to her own family but to those that lost their
mom or just needed another "mom".
She will indeed be missed by many.
