Florence Polleys

Florence Molter Polleys, age 101, of Sturgis, Michigan, passed away on Monday June 4, 2018 at Northern Lakes Nursing Center, Angola, Indiana. Florence was the 7th of 9 children born to Earl & Elizabeth (Whisler) Molter, she was born on March 21, 1917 in LaGrange County, Indiana. She spent her early years in Orland, Indiana. She is survived by a son, Gary (Jan) Hill of Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter, Donna (Jim) Melchi of Angola, Indiana, a step-son, Dr. Robert (Nan) Polleys of Boyne City, Michigan, a step-daughter, Mary Fox of Alexandria, Virginia, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her large and loving family. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She also loved her flowers and landscaping her yard. She traveled extensively and enjoyed her many winters in Florida. She married Donald Hill in 1937. They lived in Oakland, California, until 1943 when they moved back to Sturgis, Michigan. Don passed away in 1943. During WW II she worked at the Wade Electric Company in Sturgis, Michigan. In 1950 she was went to work for St. Joseph County, and worked there for 25 years. In November of 1952 she married Robert Polleys. He passed away in 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters. Graveside Services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Oaklawn Cemetery, 130 N. Nottawa Street, Sturgis, Michigan. Dinner will follow at the In-Between Restaurant, 21355 Us Hwy 12, Sturgis, MI 49091. Memorial donations in her memory are requested to the St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
