Larry L. Smart

He was born March 29, 1944, to C.R. and Gladys (Everetts) Smart in Auburn, the first son in the family after five daughters were born.

Larry has lived in the Fremont area all his life, and graduated from Fremont High School in 1962.

He married Loretta (Wisel) 48 years ago this past July 20th; to this union a son, Brian T. Smart of Pleasant Lake, completed their family. Two grandchildren came years later to be the center of Larry's life: Lindsay E. Smart and Brandon T. Smart, both from Pleasant Lake.

Larry sold iron for more than 30 years, and was employed as a salesman for John Deere at Sherman Farm Equipment, now Fillmore Farm Equipment at Howe.

His dynamic personality allowed respect and friendships with those he did business with and accomplished many sales. This job was total fulfillment and Larry was able to work up until his passing.

Larry and his son Brian enjoyed raising Hereford cattle and hay farming, and they had summer hay help that kept everyday exciting for him. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Indiana University Hoosiers fan.

Larry is also survived by his five sisters, Patsy Michael of Fremont, Phyllis Hutchins of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dorothy and Charles Hays of Shreveport, La., Nancy and Paul Wilcox of Angola, and Sharon and Rodney Wells of Angola; and two brothers, C.R. and Tootsie Smart of Washington, N.C., and David Smart of Angola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.R. and Gladys Smart, two brothers-in-law, Philip Michael, and Robert Hutchins.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday April 25, 2012, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Lynn Eicher officiating. Burial will be at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont.

Memorials are to Steuben County Cancer Association, Angola.
