Patrick William Ellis, age 71, passed away on May 22, 2024 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. His steady presence and his wit, dad jokes, and dry humor brought immense joy to those around him. He loved his family with his entire being and showed his love every day.
Patrick was born on August 12, 1952 to William and Margaret Ellis in Fostoria, Ohio. After graduating from Fostoria High School in 1970, Pat went on to study at Case Western University, earning his first Bachelor degree in Management Science in 1974. He next earned his Bachelor of Science in Education at The Ohio State University in 1976. He started his career teaching math at Anderson High School in Cincinnati, kicking off a 45+ year career teaching math in both high school and the college setting at Anderson, Cincinnati State, IPFW, and Trine University. Pat completed his Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati while teaching, coaching, and raising a family. Patrick thrived in his role as teacher and coach; coaching various sports including football, wrestling, and track & field.
In 1979, Patrick met the love of his life, Carla, and they wed in 1981, going on to have two children, Jennifer and Tracey. He was the best Gaga to his six grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Aidan, Owen, Sofia, and Isaiah. Gaga was the leader of all the adventures, biggest sideline cheerleader, most dedicated dance grandpa, and creator of an oasis of fun and a lifetime of memories at Lake Gage. Pat was an avid golfer, and would be found on the golf course if he was not attending the grandkids’ activities.
Pat is survived by his loving family, including wife Carla, daughters Jennifer (Ryan) and Tracey (Matthew), mother-in-law Doris Porter, sister Margaret Beck, his six grandchildren and seven nieces. Pat's family extended to include bonus lake siblings, as well as numerous bonus lake nieces and nephews. Pat is preceded in death by parents Margaret and William Ellis, brothers Edric and Richard Ellis, father-in-law Bruce C. Porter, brother-in-law Michael Beck, and niece Tammy Mae Beck.
Please join us in remembering and celebrating Pat. The funeral service to honor and celebrate Pat's life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Chapel of the Lakes at 4:30 pm. A second memorial service will be held in late June in Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in memory of Patrick Ellis.
