Richard Martin "Dick" Swander

He was born on March 19, 1933 in Garrett, Indiana to the Arthur and Orla (Darrell) Swander.

Dick proudly served in the United States Army, and the Steuben County Sheriff's Department Reserves.

Dick grew up on the family farm, spending his lifetime farming, also worked for Hays Albion in West Unity, Ohio, Dana Weatherhead in Angola, Indiana, Fremont Farm Bureau Co-Op, and drove a milk truck for Martin Farms in Hamilton, Indiana.

He married Helen J. Smith on January 20, 1953 in Kendallville, Indiana, she preceded him in death on December 21, 2017.

Dick had a love for dogs, going out for dinner, his grandchildren, swinging on the porch, going out west hunting, his Case tractors, and being outdoors.

Survivors include his children, Martin (Patricia) Swander of Fremont, Indiana, Steven (Denise) Swander of Montgomery, Michigan, and Harold Swander (Cindy White) of Fremont, Indiana, daughter-in-law, Pam Swander of Fremont, Indiana, grandchildren, Heather Gallippo of Montgomery, Michigan, Aimee (Brandon) Walker of Fort Myers, Florida, Susan (Bobby) Allshouse of Orland, Indiana, Dustin Swander of Montgomery, Michigan, Jeannie (Patrick) Conroy of Angola, Indiana, Joseph Swander of Fremont, Indiana, Jennifer Swander of Fremont, Indiana, and Jake (Kelsey) Swander of Angola, Indiana, Many grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Orla Swander, wife Helen J. Swander, and his brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm Monday, January 8, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Rev. Jon Bruney will officiate the service.

Burial will follow at Teeters Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana with Military Honors.
