

He was born in Angola, Indiana, on September 5, 1935, and was raised on the family farm, the son of Ivan L. and Ruth ( Duguid) Burlingame, they both preceded him in death.
Roger graduated from Fremont High School in 1953. On October 23, 1955 he married Rose M. (Mitchell), and she survives.
His early years of working included surveying for the construction of the Indiana Toll Road. He then worked for the Toll Road Commission for ten years. He also worked for a short time as a loan officer for the Litchfield State Bank in Camden, Michigan. The bulk of his career was with the Steuben County REMC, where he started in 1966 and later served as the General Manager for eighteen years, retiring in 1998.
Roger also farmed his entire lifetime, where he spent many years tending to the family farm after his work day had ended.
In his retirement Roger spent his time restoring and refurbishing antique Farmall tractors. He had many friends, and especially enjoyed being a part of the Antique Tractors Association.
Rose and Roger were members of their Pinochle Club for 58 years. Some of his best friends during his lifetime were his horses he rode as a boy, and the dogs that he had through the years, his latest being his beloved Springer Spaniel, Bo.
Through the years he was a 50 year member of the Fremont Masonic Lodge # 210, F & AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne, the Angola Moose Lodge #1568, and the Fremont United Methodist Church, and formerly served Steuben County as a member of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department Merit Board and Steuben County 4-H Fair Board.
Survivors include, his wife, Rose M. Burlingame of Fremont, Indiana, two sons, Jeff (Lisa) Burlingame of Angola, Indiana, and Craig (Laura) Burlingame of Fremont, Indiana, his grandchildren, Alyssa (Adam) Blonde, Zachary Burlingame, Jordan Burlingame, Caitlin Burlingame (Leo Song), Audra Burlingame (Chad Martin), Evan Burlingame, Nicholas Burlingame, and Bailey Eberts, four great-grandchildren, Alivia, Alaina, Ariana Grace, and Alexis, and a brother, Loren and Sheryl Burlingame of Union City, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Ruth Burlingame.
Calling hours will be from 3-6 pm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, June 2, 2014, at Beams Funeral Home, with Rev. Darin Hendrey officiating.
Burial will follow the services at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana.
Memorials are requested to the Fremont United Methodist Church or Fremont Masonic Lodge # 210 F & AM, or to Steuben County Humane Society.
