

Harry C. Michaels Jr., 93, of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Rutherford House. He was born the son of Harry C. Michaels Sr., and Mary (Hampsher) Michaels on January 7, 1923 in Fremont, Ohio. Harry was a 1941 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and joined the Army to fight in the South Pacific during WWII. He worked for 22 years at Ludlow Composites until his retirement in 1983, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion, and the Fremont Moose. In his spare time, Harry enjoyed going fishing, and creating furniture and other crafts though his skills with woodworking. Harry married Julia “Judy” Mapes on June 5, 1943 in Fremont, and they had three daughters together; Krista Michaels, of Fremont, Sharlyn (Bill) Reiter, of Fremont, and Lesa (Robert) Ray, of Genoa. In addition to his children, Harry is survived by 6 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997, his brother, James “Pete” Michaels, and sister, Norma May Michaels, and son-in-law, Fred Durnwald.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 from 4p.m. to 8p.m. at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Larry Michaels will be officiating. Burial will follow at McGormley Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the VFW and American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or ProMedica Hospice.
