Joyce Elmine Knipp

Born August 17, 1928, to Furl and Elva (Sorg) Mosser, Joyce graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1946 and married Harold Knipp on April 24, 1948. They settled in Lindsey and Joyce worked as a homemaker and mother.

A gifted pianist and organist, she played the organ at Lindsey Trinity Church and, for a number of years in the 1960s, Gibsonburg Methodist Church. From the late 1960s until April 2014, Joyce played the organ at Lindsey Trinity United Methodist Church, only missing a Sunday on the rarest of occasions.

She also shared her love of music with the area’s youth, giving piano and organ lessons for years.

Her other great love was horticulture, and Joyce served on the Lindsey Tree Commission, volunteered at Schedel Arboretum and Gardens in Elmore, and faithfully adorned graves at Lindsey Cemetery with flowers—along with keeping her own robust garden.

She is survived by sons Ken (Vickie) and Denny (Lisa), as well as her grandchildren: Tim (Kristi), Gabe, (Brooke), T.C., Janae, and Drew. She also had five great-granddaughters.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and sisters Helen Mitchell and Mary Jane Melson. Her brother Vernell, known as “Ink,” survives her and, along with Dick Willer of Lindsey, was a close companion in her later years.

Visitation will be at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church the following day, at 10:30 a.m. on July 2, followed by her burial at Lindsey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsey or to Young Life, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
