

She was the first daughter and third child born to Frances (Clendenin) Mitchell and Harry Lee Mitchell in New Martinsville, West Virginia. Kathryn graduated from Magnolia High School in New Martinsville in 1938 and came to Fremont in 1949. She was a full-time homemaker for several years before pursuring a college education.
Mrs. Coxon was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and taught elementary education at Stamm and Croghan Schools for 21 years. She retired from teaching in 1985 but remained active in many community and church organizations. She was recognized for her faithful service as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital and the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center.
Mrs. Coxon was an ordained Elder of the Presbyterian Church and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fremont. For several years she was also a member of the Fremont Chapter of American Association of University Women and the Fremont Chapter #133 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by and dearly remembered by her four adult children: Judith (Fred) Norten of Durham, North Carolina; Patricia S. Abrahamson of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; John "Hal" Coxon of Hainesville, Illinois; and Janet Kathryn Mason of Sarasota, Florida. Mrs. Coxon was preceded in death on July 12, 2013 by her youngest child, Beverly Lynn Walker of Sarasota, Florida.
Mrs. Coxon is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers Joseph C. Mitchell of Florida and John L. Mitchell of Charleston, West Virginia; and her sister Martha "Jane" Robinson, who had recently resided in Fremont.
Calling hours for Mrs. Coxon will be at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 7 from 11am to 1pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 1pm wih the Rev. Bill McConnell officiating. Mrs. Coxon will be interred at Greenlawn Memory Gardens at 1793 W. McPherson Highway in Clyde immediately following the service.
The Coxon family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate and loving care shown for the past three years to Kathryn "Katie" Coxon by the dedicated staff of Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to ProMedica Memorial Hospice Care of 430 S. Main Street in Clyde, Ohio 43410, or to First Presbyterian Church at 120 S. Park Avenue in Fremont, Ohio 43420.
Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home at 416 S. Arch Street in Fremont has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
