

Sister Mary Gloria Auer, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at St. Bernardine Home in Fremont Ohio, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Sister of Mercy for 66 years she was 83 years old.
Sister Mary Gloria was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 1, 1932 to Earl and Regina (Blewitt) Auer. One of three girls her childhood was in Cleveland. Sister Gloria attended John Marshall High School in Cleveland and was a member of the band.
In February of 1950, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Cincinnati, Ohio. When she made vows she received the name Sister Mary Pancratius. After proclamation of her final vows in 1955 and Vatican II she changed her name back to her baptismal name.
She received a B.A. degree from Our Lady of Cincinnati College with a major in History and a Master’s in Education from Xavier University.
For almost 50 years, Sister Gloria ministered in elementary education first as a junior high teacher and later as Principal. She made history come alive for her students often using letters and mementos her father had from WWII. As a principal she organized many school projects and interdepartmental programs.
Sister taught in schools in Cincinnati, St .Catherine of Siena in Toledo, Ascension School in Cleveland, and Assumption school in Geneva, Ohio.
As a sister she lived her vows and served wherever she was asked. However Ascension School in Cleveland was very special to her and she was there for almost 20 years at various times. She guided entire generations of children to adolescence. Her final school assignment was in Assumption school in Geneva as she answered a need for a Principal.
From 2003 to 2008 she was Director of Our Lady of the Pines Retreat Center. During her time many renovations were achieved. Her deep spirituality served her well in this role.
Upon retiring from active ministry she pursued her passion for prayer and music. As accomplished flutist she had played at many of the Sisters of Mercy celebrations and in her later years joined the Joe LaConey Band of the Sylvania Senior Center.
Sister Gloria is survived by the members of her religious community the Sisters of Mercy, Her sister Regina Miller of West Palm beach FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday March 11, 2016 at St. Bernardine Home from 3:00 -7:30 and on Saturday until the funeral. The funeral services will be Saturday March 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the St. Bernardine Chapel. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Pines cemetery. St. Bernardine’s is located at 1220 Tiffin St. Fremont
