

Robert E. Laird, 88, of Fremont died Sunday morning, February 26, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 29, 1923 in Seneca County to Louis and Bernice (Havens) Laird. He married Marjorie A. Thom on December 1, 1945 at St. Joseph's Church in Tiffin.
Mr. Laird worked at Standard Oil of Ohio and also farmed until he retired in 1983. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Fremont, Sohio Quarter Century Club and Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 2974 of Fremont.
Mr. Laird served with the U.S. Army in England, France, Belgium and Germany during World War II as a Sergeant. During the battles and campaigns in Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the EAME Theatre Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Jubilee of Freedom Medal from Normandy, France.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Laird of Fremont; daughters: Kathleen Holden of Fostoria, OH, Nancy (Jerry Cantu)Laird- Everett of Fremont; son, Chris of Fremont; grandchildren: Inga, Sherrie, Julie, McKala, Michael, Amber; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Kimball of Fremont, OH; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Robert J. Laird; brothers: Wayne, Harold, Haven; sisters: Helen Feasel and Fern Feasel.
The family wishes to thank the nurses of Stein Hospice for the excellent care they provided Robert and his family.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Keller- Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio 43420. Funeral Services will begin at 10:30 on Wednesday from the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside honors performed by the V.F.W. and American Legion.
