Agnes has a son Robert Garfias born 1946 from a previous marriage. She was married to John T. Rodriguez on June 12, 1953 until his death in December 2008. Together they had a daughter, Rebecca Zamora born 1954.
Agnes grew up in Sanchez, Arizona, moving to California where she graduated from Hanford High. She would recount many memories of growing up at the ranch, waking up to the sight of a beautiful purple mountain. She had so many stories of a wonderful childhood spent with her only grandpa, her parents and siblings and many aunties, uncles, and cousins.
Agnes enjoyed traveling with her husband who took her any place she wanted to go. They traveled cross country many times visiting new and old places and family along the way. She and John also managed several out of country trips visiting Europe, Canada, Mexico and Central America. together they also enjoyed ballroom and square dancing practicing new moves in the kitchen to entertain the family. During that time they were also traveling with their square dance and trailer groups finding their favorite home away from home at Pismo Beach. After losing her husband she still craved the sights and sounds of the ocean where any chance they got, Rebecca would take her for a Pismo fix.
Agnes’ main enjoyment was focused on loving and caring for her family. She played a big part in the bringing up of all her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren. She was eager to bake any desired treat that was requested of her. Be it cherry pie for Irene, chocolate delight for Lisa, beerrocks for Alex or anything anyone would ask for. But her favorite, as anyone who knew her, was her famous empanadas. However, she’d say she was “her own best customer”. She was quick to laugh, savored with gusto the fruits from her yard, loved playing cards & board games and sipping on her Kahlua. She was a hard worker and always gave 110% in any venture however great or small. She taught us by example to love and to forgive and her love was unconditional.
Agnes worked some 40+ years with the State of California, retiring in 1987. For many years she was an active member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the Guadalupe Society at Sacred Heart Church. She affected the lives of so many and will be greatly missed.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband John and a brother Melchi Sanchez. She is survived by her son Robert Garfias of Madera, Rebecca Zamora of Fresno; Four grandchildren, Irene Zamora and Lisa Romero both of Fresno, Michael Garfias and his wife, Sydney of Oregon, Alex Fioretta and his wife, Bianca of Long Beach and Eight great- grandchildren, David, Victoria & Isabel Romero, Raymond Leija, Melchi & Patrick Garfias, Ruby & Violet Fioretta, and a sister Jovita Fabela of Armona.
