
She and Peter Cano, also of Fresno, married in Fresno on April 17, 1938. They left family and friends and moved to Los Angeles in 1942.
She was an accountant throughout her working life and was employed with several firms in the Los Angeles area until she retired. By that time she and husband Peter had seen their son through college and law school.
She was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters and was involved in its related charities and events. She and Peter traveled together through life and to Europe, China, Mexico, Alaska, Canada and elsewhere and played golf together until declining health limited her activities in the mid 1990's. Never- theless, her indomitable spirit maintained her and guided her family.
She and Peter had been married for four days less than 71 years when he passed away on April 13, 2009.
She now has come home to Peter and to family and friends.
Mrs. Cano is survived and profoundly missed by her son, Thomas Cano and his wife Margaret of Westlake Village, California; her grandsons, Brian Thomas Cano and Jonathan Peter Cano and his wife Tiffany, both of San Francisco; her granddaughter, Jennifer Cano-Smith and her husband Brandon; great-grandchildren, Evan and Nora, all of Thornton, Colorado; and a multitude of nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces; and great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces. Mrs. Cano's brothers and sisters were Jose Maria Hijar, Simon Bonillas, Minnie Birmingham, Lena Kleim and Dolores Oaxaca.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Friday, August 13, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Paul Newman Center, 1572 East Barstow Avenue in Fresno, on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, 264 N. Blythe Ave. in Fresno
