Angelita Miramontes Olais, affectionately known as “Angie” and "Gramma Angie" was born on September 22, 1933, in Reedley, California. On Thursday, September 16, 2021, she passed away after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, which she endured for over fifty years.
Angie was a graduate of Parlier High School, Class of 1951. She earned an AA degree from Reedley College and went to work at the Fresno County Courthouse in the Veterans Service Office. She also spent many years working with Fresno Unified as an office assistant who interpreted and translated for families whose first language was Spanish. She prioritized helping and advocating for families in need.
In 1962, she married Louie Olais and recently celebrated their 59-year anniversary. Who would have thought that dancing at the Rainbow Ballroom would lead to a lifetime of love and happiness? They raised their three daughters, traveled many places, and cheered on many athletic teams together within those years. Especially the Fresno State Bulldogs! The annual camping trips to Pismo Beach were especially important to her as she reconnected with relatives who came to spend time together and reminisce. It gave her joy to spend that time with her family. Any time spent with family and friends was welcomed and cherished.
Through her love for Mexican music and dance, she sat through many dance and music lessons, sewed many Folklorico costumes, and attended countless Music and dance performances for her daughters and grandchildren. Her support for her grandchildren also extended to the many times she sat on the sidelines or in the bleachers, proudly cheering for soccer games and track meets. She was never shy to sing a song or sing along which she did so beautifully.
She was her children's and grandchildren's unofficial pre-school teacher and loved spending hours reading to them in bed. Any time spent with her grandchildren recharged her batteries. She often said that she loved it when they were all at her home talking over each other, laughing, and hanging out.
As a woman of faith, she shared the importance of helping and being kind to others.
She attended mass regularly and prayed for everyone. Her faith was the foundation of her relationships.
Angelita Miramontes Olais was preceded in death by her parents, Trinidad, and Florence Miramontes.
She is survived by her husband Louie Olais, daughters Felicia Olais Becerril, Rosemarie Olais Pantoja, Lucia Olais-Macias, their spouses Abraham Becerril, Dan Pantoja, and Paul Macias; eight much-loved grandchildren, Maya, Sabrina, Adriana, Daniel, Luz, Liliana, Mateo, and Elisa.
She is also survived by her sister Juanita Aguilar, brother Frank Miramontes and his wife Laurie, their families, and countless friends who will miss her dearly.
