Anthony Martinez Gonzales, born on August 11, 1939, in Mesa, Arizona, passed away on May 18, 2025, at the age of 85. A resident of Sanger, California, Anthony was a beloved husband, father, and community member.
Anthony was married to his devoted wife, Catalina, for 65 years. Together, they built a loving family, including their sons, Anthony (Virgie) and Ray Gonzales (Norma). He was predeceased by his son, John Gonzales and his parents Bonifacio and Anita Gonzales. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A proud veteran, Anthony served in the United States Air Force. His dedication to his country was paralleled by his commitment to his community. He graduated from Fresno State University, with a Teaching Credential and taught for 32 years. He taught 4th grade most of his teaching career but then was asked to teach kindergarten, which he enjoyed very much. His students enjoyed the magic shows that he performed during class. In 1980 he received a Masters degree in School Management from the University of La Verne.
After he retired from teaching, he worked for the Sheriff's department as a collector for unpaid taxes.
From 2014 to 2018, he served on the Citizens of Sanger oversight committee for measure S, and from 2015 to 2016, he was a member of the Grand Jury. He also volunteered numerous hours with Am Vets.
Anthony had a passion for flying Cessnas and cherished spending time outdoors, enjoying activities such as camping and hunting. Additionally, he was an enthusiast of antique cars, amassing a cherished collection over the years.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, located at 202 N. Teilman Ave., Fresno, California, on August 10, 2025, at 5:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2590 E North Avenue, Sanger, CA 93657, on August 11, 2025, at 10:00 am.
Anthony Martinez Gonzales will be remembered for his service, dedication, and the love he shared with his family and community.
