Bessie Stalis passed away February 19, 2026, leaving a legacy defined by her deep love for family, her independent spirit, and her dedication to others. A cornerstone of the Stalis family, Bess was a devoted sister to her brothers, their wives, and a constant, loving presence in the lives of her nieces and nephew. Her heart was always centered on her family.
A lifelong educator, Bess took great pride in her career, spending many years teaching at Jackson School and then Webster School in Fresno. She deeply valued the friendships she built with her colleagues and the many lives she shaped in the classroom. Outside of work, she enjoyed travel, and the simple joy of bowling with friends and was proud for hitting an impressive score of 220. Whether she was lightening the mood in the teacher’s lounge or finding a way to reach a struggling student, Bess had a wonderful way of making people feel loved.
Bess was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eugenia Stathoulis; her sister, Fay; her brothers, John and George; and her loving companion, Larry DeCarlo.
She is survived by her brother, Angelo Stalis (Barbara); sister-in-law, Rachel Stalis; nephew, George G. Stalis (Veronica); and nieces, Wendy Denney (Darin), Kimberly Duzi (Patrick) and Nicolette Perez (Jay); and 11 grand nieces and nephews and one great grand nephew.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Bristol Hospice and Paintbrush Memory Care for the compassionate care they provided to Bess.
Funeral Services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Fresno, California, on March 9, 2026 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Bess’s memory to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or Bristol Hospice.
