Charles Gordon Buford, better known as Chuck, Chuckles, Chaz, and Popsi, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021. It was just a few short months ago that he celebrated his 60th birthday at a glorious garden party, surrounded by dozens of friends who loved him dearly.
Chuck was born and raised in Ivanhoe, California by Charlie and Bonnie Buford, along with two brothers - Rick (Val) and Mike (Terry) - and two sisters Judy (Dolph) and Betty. He attended Redwood High School in Visalia. He was born with a warm and caring heart, and a genuine smile. He had a beautiful singing voice and twice toured the US with gospel singing groups. He was also gifted with a sly and witty sense of humor and impeccable comic timing, to the enjoyment of all who knew him.
On the day of his passing, someone asked if I thought Chuck was "fulfilled" - a pretty big thing to ask of one's life. But of course, he was fulfilled. He had reached a level of genuine professional success; he was loved by more good, close friends than most people ever have a chance to know (including especially all the Loggers and other good folks at the Pub); and he was blessed with an adoring family - his husband of 26 years Sal Ayala, their two daughters Samantha and Destiny, and granddaughter Brianna.
He will be sorely missed by all those whose hearts he touched.
A visitation for Charles will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, 202 North Teilman, Fresno, CA 93706.
