

Dale Thomas Lumsden, 84, of Fresno, California, passed away on March 15, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will take place at First Galilee Missionary Baptist Church on April 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The church’s address is: 4410 E. Hedges Ave., Fresno, California.
Dale was born in Fresno, California, on October 8, 1940, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958. He received a direct commission into the United States Army Medical Specialists Corps upon graduation from the University of Montana in 1962. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and played on the university’s football team. Dale earned his master’s degree at Fresno State in 1971 and was a member of The Bulldog Foundation.
During the Vietnam war era, Dale served two years on active duty at the Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco. In 1964 he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves, and served as Chief, Nutrition Care Branch for 23 years at 828th Station Hospital in Fresno. Dale’s last assignment was to the Directorate, Nutrition Care, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2000 with 38 total years of service.
Throughout his career as a Registered Dietician, he worked at multiple hospitals, Wasco Prison, and retired from Davita where he served dialysis patients. From 1971-1972 he was President of the California Dietetic Association. For 34 years, Dale was an adjunct instructor at Fresno City College, teaching nutrition, food safety and sanitation. He was co-owner of The Villager, a restaurant in Fig Garden Village.
He enjoyed spending time in the mountains in Groveland, CA where his family from Scotland settled during the gold rush. Dale enjoyed watching 49’ers games and traveling, especially to Hawaii.
Dale is survived by his brother Don Lumsden, daughter Michelle Lumsden Carroll and grandsons Riley and Joshua Carroll. Dale (aka Dad / Papa Dale) will be remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor and strong work ethic.
