

Darrell G. Serrano passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 16, in Modesto, CA surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his mother Josephine and is survived by his wife Carol, father Robert, sister Debbie (Ted) and brothers Don, Dennis (Lisa), Dean (JoAnn) and Darren as well as nephews and nieces.
Darrell was a career wild land firefighter working for the US Forest Service and the National Park Service in California for approx. 25 years. He worked on many major fires throughout the western US during his long career. He was most recently stationed on the Stanislaus National Forest, at the Groveland Ranger District in Groveland, CA.
Darrell was a longtime resident of Fresno and was a 1979 graduate of Fresno High where he excelled and lettered in cross country and track and field. He attended Reedley College where he studied forestry and fire science. Before embarking on his firefighting career, Darrell spent a number of years working as a bartender and in catering services.
As an organ donor, Darrell's service to others will continue.
Visitation and viewing is Monday, November 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 1525 E. Saginaw Way, Fresno, CA. A graveside memorial service will be held at St. Peters Cemetery, 264 Blythe Avenue, Fresno, CA at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1.
