Dave was a welcome addition to Fish Camp and he will be missed.  His infectious smile and willingness to participate in the next adventure in and around our hamlet endeared him to many. Dave's care of Donn showed his true character - a person of warmth, caring and a big heart that was heavily splashed with a true sense of adventure.  Thank you Dave for spending your time in Fish Camp, you have been and will  be missed in Fish Camp.

Carolyn, I am so very sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine the pain you are going through. 
What a small world, Bill just went to a bikers get together and one of the speakers spoke of your husband. Bill had no idea it was David!  The guy spoke very highly of him and said they were all going riding to the funeral.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave for many years at Fresno Fire. When I promoted to captain in 1996, Dave was my FFS. Dave made my job so much easier. He was a pleasure to work with and be around. His infectious laugh and electric personality made Dave a fun person to be around. 

Occasionally while we were assigned to E11. We would  take a ride to the mall, stop by John Z’s and pick up a couple of cigars. We would then return back to the station and enjoy the stogies out back of station #11. Great memories with Dave.

I first met David P Gaebel in 1963-64 at Stony Lake in NY, as our parents had camps there. It was obvious this guy was destined to do great things. I was impressed at how easy he made stuff look easy, that many could't do, like water ski on one ski like a pro! We both graduated high school in 1967. David enlisted in the Navy in December of 1967. Serving 3 tours in Vietnam on the USS Oriskany and USS Hancock. He returned home in 1971. Mary Ann(his sister) and I got marrried in March 1971, and David sent us a wedding gift of Noritake china, always the big hearted guy. 
His parents bought a camp on Lake Bonaparte, and that is when David became more than a brother in law, I saw him as my 2nd brother. He could do so many things regular people couldn't do, like trim trees high in the air, do moto cross racing, ride motorcycles, being a firefighter, paramedic, of course snow skiing.
I will miss him, respect and admire him, as many people who knew David will. Rest in peace until we meet again.

Gabe, I don’t even know if you can find the word in the dictionary. To me, it has always meant love, dignity, strength, humor, loyalty and bravery. But it wasn’t just David. It applies to his parents,siblings, his wife, his children. Has to be genetic! I first met David 70 years ago and from the get-go he was the man. A hero to me right from the start. A classmate, a  teammate, a fellow veteran and a buddy, He will stay with me for the remainder of my life. I miss my friend already. I’ll see you on the other side, Gabe.

David was our first born’s  Godfather and at the time he was on a ship near Vietnam. His letters were a joy to read, full of sound effects like he was talking to us. 
His family, extended family and firemen friends have lost a great guy. May his soul rest in peace.

I am part of the Augustinian Academy ‘67 class. I grew up with David who was so physically strong and had a fierce and caring heart. He was very handsome as well. He was a great athlete in so many sports. Of course he would like to win but the friendships and having lots of fun were priority. He kept in touch with our ‘67 class over the years. We’re a close knit group. We all were deeply concerned about recovery from such a bad accident. I commend his hard decision to find peace.

Big brother Gabe,
I'm so blessed to have seen you while in the hospital a few weeks ago. We shared old memories from the past, our humor together was still in tact and on the same wave length as the years past. We lived not far away in distance comparatively but all of our adult lives take much time away for new adventures with family and careers and at least we saw each other through the years even for those brief moments in time that were so precious when looking back. I will always remember the sound of your voice, your laugh, and that so " Gabe "  smile you had upon your face when doing so. We are all going " there " wherever that place is and I'd love for you to give us a hint about this paradise in the way only " Gabe " can explain and I'm sure it would be funny. We love you big brother and we miss you terribly. Your handsome boys will carry the Gabe tradition and legacy forward. God Bless big brother and tell the       " Big Guy " we want to see you someday and to hold a reservation for all of us. HOO RAA BRO ..Pat...Aka the Catman.
