Diego Joseph Barcelos, formerly of Kerman CA, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, surrounded by love and care.
Born on November 23, 1931, in Lanare, California, to Joe and Mary Barcelos, Diego moved with his family to Kerman at a young age. He attended Kerman High School and, even as a student, rose early each morning to help with farm chores, milking cows and working alongside his father and brother—instilling a lifelong work ethic that he carried with pride.
Diego married the love of his life, Joanne Valentino, on October 6, 1956. Together, they raised four children in Kerman, California, building a life centered around family, community, and enduring love. In his younger years, Diego enjoyed bowling and playing softball in local Kerman leagues. He also coached the baseball and softball teams that his children played on—always their biggest supporter. His true passion, however, was golf, a sport he enjoyed well into his 90s.
He cherished time spent traveling, socializing with friends, and most of all, being with his family. Nothing brought him more joy than the company of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was known for his sense of humor and the many stories he shared—stories that brought laughter and wisdom and will live on in family memory. He took great interest in every activity his grandchildren were involved in and loved to hear all about their adventures.
Diego is survived by his daughters, Kathy Halstead (Andy) and Judy Schulz; daughter-in-law Kim Barcelos; grandchildren Drew and Gordon Halstead (fiancée Tamar), Jared (Emily), Justin (Marissa), Rachel Barcelos, and Brianna Schulz; and great-grandchildren Annie, Everett, and Cora Barcelos.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joanne, his sons Joe and Michael Barcelos, and his son-in-law Treg Hutchings.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the memory care staff at Magnolia Place Senior Living for the compassionate care they provided.
Diego's warm smile and quick wit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones and that we will see him again one day. He will live in our hearts forever.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend his services.
