Dorothy was born July 1, 1928 to Marie and Joseph Hahn in the family home on the family farm in Lemoore, California.
Dorothy was raised in a Catholic home with her older sister Clara, younger brother Leon, and younger sister Kathleen.
After graduating from high school, Dorothy moved to Fresno, California and shared a home with her older sister while she attended 4C’s College. Dorothy became a skilled bookkeeper from her training at 4C’s College.
The church Dorothy and Clara attended in Fresno was The Shrine of Saint Therese Catholic Church. While Dorothy and Clara were active in the Singles Group of the church, Clara met her husband, Leonard Silva. Leonard was a friend of Ross Turano. Ross was introduced to Dorothy. And they fell in love.
Ross and Dorothy were married in a double wedding ceremony at The Shrine of Saint Therese Catholic Church on November 06, 1954, with her sister Clara and fiance Leonard.
After the wedding, Dorothy and Ross raised a family in Fresno. After Dorothy and Ross had their first child, Dorothy stopped working and became a stay-at-home mom. The Lord blessed them with 5 more children. The names of their children are: PauI, Margaret, Therese, James, John, and Lisa.
Dorothy introduced her family to her love of traditions. For years during the Christmas season, Ross and Dorothy drove down Christmas Tree Lane and observed the holiday decorations to the delightful sounds of “oohs and aahs” coming from the back seat. And every Christmas season, Dorothy made blanched almonds and candied walnuts. The family looked forward to these holiday traditions every year.
Dorothy, also, introduced her family to her love of traveling. Among the places that Dorothy and Ross visited with their family while on vacations were the Dinosaur Caverns, the Grand Canyon, Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, and Disneyland.
And Dorothy introduced her family to her love of gardening. Among the plants in the gardens around the home were “Hen and Chicks”, “Bird of Paradise”, “Star Jasmine”, and roses.
After Dorothy’s husband Ross passed away, Dorothy returned to work as a bookkeeper with the same company where she had worked before marrying Ross.
After Dorothy and Ross’s children had grown and moved away from home, Dorothy continued to travel. She would take trips to visit with her children and grandchildren who lived out of town. And Dorothy and her oldest daughter Margaret, also, went on vacation together to Canada, Rome, and the Vatican.
In addition, to Dorothy’s devotion to her family, she was devoted to God. After retiring, she often attended daily Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church. And for a time, she, also served as a Eucharistic Minister, assisting with serving communion to the congregation.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa, her husband Ross, and her son Paul.
Dorothy is survived by her children Margaret Turano, Therese Turano, James Turano, and John Turano. Dorothy is also survived by various other relatives including 4 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
