She and her brother Albert grew up in rural Fresno County, and attended a one room school. She graduated from Fowler High School and attended Fresno State College for two years before going to work for Dr. Eliot Sorsky. She met Mitch Merzoian in 1948 and they were married one year later. They had two children, Rick and Carol. To family and friends, she was known as "Ellie."
Ellie was a devoted wife and mother. She loved having family and friends over for dinner, swim parties and holidays. In the early 1960's, she discovered golf, which became a life long passion. She soon became an avid golfer and loved to compete on the Fort Washington Ladies Club team.
She and Mitch enjoyed many years of golf with friends. They traveled extensively and especially enjoyed their trips to Scotland, Greece and South America, where Ellie was able to connect with many relatives.
As much as she loved golf, Ellie loved her grandchildren more. She was fortunate to be an active participant in their lives and she was thrilled to be able to meet and enjoy her two great grandchildren. Ellie will be missed by her family, nieces and nephews and friends.
Ellie is survived by son and daughter-in-law Rick and Rita Merzoian, daughter Carol Giovacchini, grandchildren Andrea and Billy Ramos, Anthony Giovacchini, and Leslie and Artie Cervantes, and great-grandsons Mack and Brady Cervantes. She was preceded in death by her husband Mitch, her brother Albert and son-in-law Jim.
Family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon in Ellie's honor at the Fort Washington Golf and Country Club on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Please RSVP to Rick Merzoian at [email protected]. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donors give to their favorite charity.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stephensandbean.com for the Merzoian family.
