Evelyn Alice (Owen) Freeman was born in Fowler, California, on September 19, 1941, to Kathryn and Irvin Owen. She grew up in Fresno, attended Fresno High School, and graduated with the class of 1959. She later continued her education at Fresno City College before marrying the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Freeman, on January 21, 1961. The two made their home in Fresno until 2016, when Evelyn moved to Clovis.
A devoted homemaker, Evelyn dedicated her early years to raising her three children—Ron, Debbie, and Susie—while actively participating in their school and extracurricular activities. She volunteered with the PTA, supported various sports teams, and was involved with Girl Scouts, dance clubs, and Rainbow Girls. When her children reached junior high, Evelyn began working at Fort Miller Junior High, and later continued her professional life supporting several law firms, including those of attorney Jim Donavan and her son-in-law, Charles Doerksen.
In 1970, Evelyn and Chuck were honored to become Godparents to Doug and Brian Berg, and later to Cyndi Berg in 1973. The families created countless cherished memories together through shared vacations and lifelong friendship.
Evelyn enjoyed many hobbies over the years, especially bowling, at which she excelled. She valued her social clubs and gatherings, remaining a proud member of her Canasta club for more than 50 years. She was also in the Moose Club, the Edison Social Club, and relished many bingo nights at the 509 and the Elks Lodge.
Above all, Evelyn had a remarkable gift for friendship. She formed and nurtured deep, lasting relationships and treasured the many friends and family who enriched her life.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her sister, Marilyn; and her brother, Roger. She is lovingly remembered by her three children and their spouses—Ronald Freeman, Debbie Freeman Doerksen (husband Charles Doerksen), and Susie Freeman Moody (husband Steve Moody)—along with her 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Winfield Montgomery, sister-in-law Mary Tang, as well as aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Doerksen River Ranch, 25920 Elwood Road in Sanger. Guests are encouraged to dress warmly; heaters and firepits will be available. A warm “linner” (lunch and dinner) and hot beverages will be served.
