Fresno, California Fujiye Jean Nakashima, fondly known by friends as "Jean" or "Fudge", passed away on June 6, 2022, at the age of 95. Jean was born on December 1, 1926 to Tokikchi and Toshiye Yoshioka in Fresno, CA. She attended Fresno High School until her family was sent to the Fresno Assembly Center at the start of WWII. The family was transferred to Jerome, Arkansas Relocation Camp, and later, to Rowher, Arkansas Relocation Camp. Jean graduated from Denson High School in Jerome Camp in 1944. She graduated 4 C's Business College in 1949. Jean married Masao Nakashima on July 15, 1950. Together, they built their family farm of wine grapes and raisins in the Easton, Caruthers area. Jean was the bookkeeper for the family farm. Mas and Jean were married 65 years. As an active member of Bowles Buddhist Church, Bowles Shinwakai, Fresno Betsuin Buddhist Temple, Fresno Betsuin Senior Club, and Fresno Betsuin Buddhist Women's Association, Jean enjoyed volunteering and doing community work.
Jean loved reading, traveling, casino gambling, watching Bulldog sports, playing Tong-its card game and bingo. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and dear friends. She will be remembered for being kind, thoughtful, and generous. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Masao, her brothers, Katsumi and Masami, and her parents, Tokichi and Toshiye Yoshioka. She is survived by her son, Mitchell (Lynn) Nakashima; daughter, Elaine (Jun) Tamura; grandchildren, Jared (Alina) Nakashima, Stacey Nakashima, Jaclyn Tamura; great grandchildren, Camden, Keira, and Cody Nakashima.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dennis Nakata for his dedication and exceptional care; Smith Home Care, Beth and Sara, and caregivers, Bonnie. Marilyn. Helen, Analiza, Doren and Gigi for their loving care; and Hinds Hospice for their support. Private Services were held.
