Geno Nonini was born to Antonio and Angelina Nonini on July 15, 1927, in Fresno, Ca.; the youngest of five children. He was called home by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 5, 2013, thus ending our cherished time with him on this earth. Geno was a hard working and devoted husband, father, son and brother. As co-owner with his wife, Margueritte, they founded Geno's Nursery and operated it for 58 years.
Geno was an active and enthusiastic supporter of the California State University, Fresno Viticulture Department, teaming up with Professor Vincent Petrucci to travel the world thus advancing his expertise and knowledge of viticulture. His quest for learning continued through his association with University of California, Davis as well as his membership in the OIV (Organization of International Viticulturists). Through his professional contacts he advanced his techniques in grafting and his expertise in new root stock varieties. As an innovative businessman Geno's Nursery was the first to introduce certified grapevine root stock in the state of California during the height of its operations, Geno's Nursery supplied up to 70% of root stock plantings in California.
Geno was preceded in death by his wife Margueritte.
He is survived by his daughter, Christina and her husband Joaquin; his son, Martin and his wife Julie; his five grandchildren, Danielle, Andrew, Matthew, Lauren and Mercedes; as well as his brother, Guildo Nonini.
