George Edward Whitman, Sr., known to all as George, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 75. Born on October 11, 1949, in Stockton, California, George was a man of intelligence, analytical prowess, and exceptional handiness, whose life was marked by his love for adventure, his dedication to his family, and his passion for helping others.
George's early years in California set the stage for a life full of learning and exploration. He pursued his education at California State University, Fresno, where he studied Business, laying the groundwork for what would become a successful and varied career. George's professional journey was characterized by his analytical mind and entrepreneurial spirit. He started as a loan officer for Bank of America, where he honed his financial acumen. His expertise in the field grew as he transitioned into a role as a commercial real estate loan broker. Not one to be confined to a single path, George also pursued his love for travel and entrepreneurship by operating a traveling fresh-squeezed lemonade business, which brought joy to many and quenched the thirst of adventurers like himself.
As an active, long time member of the Kiwanis, Elks, and Rotary clubs he exemplified the spirit of service and community leadership while showing a remarkable talent for fundraising by securing generous donations to benefit area schools and charitable causes. George's zest for life was not limited to his professional endeavors. He was a man who thrived in the great outdoors, whether he was in the mountains or by the sea. He found comfort in the quiet moments, whether it was spending time at his lakeside cabin or indulging in his book a week reading habit. He and his beloved wife, Therese, shared a passion for traveling in their RV, accompanied by their dogs. Together they explored the country, creating memories that would become the legacy of their shared adventures. George was also known for his ability to fix and build just about anything. His wife often joked that he was an over-engineer, always going above and beyond in every project he undertook.
In addition to his love for the outdoors and knack for engineering, George was deeply committed to helping children achieve success. He believed in the potential of every child and dedicated his time to mentoring and inspiring the younger generation to reach for their dreams.
George was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Whitman, Sr. and Rosa Lee Miller, as well as his siblings, Priscilla Rodriguez, Mary K. Walker, and William A. Whitman, Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife, Therese Whitman; his son, George E. Whitman, Jr.; and his sisters, Beckie Longacre and Elizabeth Afzal. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, who will cherish his memory and continue to be inspired by the life he led.
George's life was one of purpose, joy, and impact. Those who knew him will remember his intelligent conversations, his analytical approach to problem-solving, and his handy skills that could bring any idea to fruition. His legacy is not only in the structures he built or the businesses he developed but in the lives he touched and the example he set of living life to the fullest.
