Gladys went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Her love for our Lord and her faith kept her at peace to the end. She has now finished life's journey and has won the crown of eternal life.
She was born Gladys Ruth Gager on February 24, 1922, in Essex, England, where she grew up with her dad, mom, brother and sister. When World War II broke out in Europe, Gladys joined a medical hospital to serve as a nursing assistant to aid with the wounded military personnel. About three years into the war, she met a young American named John Aydelott. He was attached to the United States Army Medical Corps in England. After a proper courtship, John proposed to Gladys and asked her to come to America as his bride. This was hard for Gladys, but she loved John so much that she said goodbye to her family and home and made the long sea voyage to the United States. John and Gladys made their home in Fresno and the Lord blessed them with 65 years together. Gladys helped John with the providing for the family by working for the Dried Fruit Association until her retirement. She kept her life in balance by being a faithful servant of the Lord's work through Bethany Mennonite Bretheran for over 50 years.
As the end neared, Gladys was ready, through her faith, to be reunited with her loved ones that had gone before.
The family is truly thankful for the many prayers and acts of kindness. We wish to give special thanks to the loving and caring staff at St. Agnes Medical Center and Hinds Hospice.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, John; and her son, Donald.
Gladys is survived by her son, Robert J. Aydelott and his wife, Kathy; her three grandchildren, Christine Bennett and her husband Chris, Cynthia Hall and her husband Rob, and Donny Lee Aydelott; her four great-grandchildren, Alex Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Kiara Hall, and Kayla Hall.
A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens, on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow at Bethany Church, located at 9161 N. Maple Ave., in Fresno at 11:00 a.m.
The family requests that any remembrances in lieu of flowers be made in Gladys's name to Hinds Hospice, 1416 W. Twain Ave., Fresno, Ca. 93711.
