The Lord was in need of a brilliant flower. Lupe was called to join the beings of love and light on Monday, July 20, 2015. He passed away from this world held by the embrace of a loving family circle. Lupe was born in San Antonio, TX on December 12, 1940, to Genoveva and David Tovar. He was the oldest son from a family of 12. Lupe's family moved to Oskosh, WI, where he from childhood began working with his siblings in the fields as migrant workers. Enriched by the toil of hoeing cotton, picking sugar beets and potatoes, Lupe was instilled with a strong work ethic, pride and deep reverence for life. After high school, Lupe served proudly in the United State Navy. He performed PT Boat operations during the Vietnam War and later became Senior Chief Engineer. There was nothing he could not fix. Lupe ended his 30 years of service as a top Navy Recruiter. He was a good sailor. As a civilian, Lupe earned his college degree and was an avid scholar. He always had an ever present love of learning and leaves behind an extensive library collection. Akin to nature, Lupe's passion was the rocks. He loved to hike and be out with the rocks. He was a self-taught archeologist who formed many insights. Lupe was a kind, endearing, generous spirit with a genuine love for each person he met along his path. He was always grateful and often spoke the words "Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful".
Lupe is survived by Pat, his sweetheart of 52 years; his children, Lawrence, Terrance, Stephanie, and their spouses; four grandchildren; his seven sisters; four brothers; and many nieces; and nephews. Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m.
