Herman's family moved to Kerman, Ca. in 1936 and began farming. Farming was to become his life's work. Herman enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home to Kerman. He married Bernice Huber on November 30, 1946. From that day forward they shared their life together, working hard and taking care of their family.
Herman was an active 4-H leader for over 18 years, teaching many young people the art of woodworking. He was a member of the Bulldog Foundation for 19 years, a past president of the Edison Social Club, and a Director of the Guild Wineries and Distilleries Cooperative.
Bethany Lutheran Church was like a second home to Herman. He served on the church council, sang in the choir and maintained the church grounds and buildings for many years.
Herman enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and working in his wood shop. He shared all these activities with his grandsons, the church youth group and his many friends.
Herman is survived by Bernice, his wife of 66 years; his sons, Douglas and his wife Nancy, and Russell and his wife Stephanie; his daughter Kathy; his grandsons, D.J. Scheidt and his wife Kimberly, Herman Andrew Stidham; and great-grandson, Ryan Scheidt. He is also survived by his brother, Albert Scheidt, of Springfield, Or.; and many nieces and nephews.
