

Hugh Calvin Henderson, 97, of Clovis, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at Golden Cross Health Care in Clovis. He was born September 11, 1915, in Tyler, TX., to Luther and Sarah Henderson. Calvin married Evelyn Maxine Cantwell in Ellinwood, KS., on December 5, 1936. The couple celebrated their 76th anniversary earlier this month. In 1938, the couple moved to Holden, WA., a mining community in the central Cascades that was accessible only by ferry on Lake Chelan. Calvin worked in the mine's mill that produced copper and other minerals for the war effort. The couple's three sons were born in Wenatchee while Calvin worked for the mine. He attended watch making school in Denver, and the family returned to Washington where he worked in a jewelry store for a time. Calvin worked for the Fuller Brush Co. in Montana and eastern Washington until the mid 1960s. Calvin and Evelyn moved to Oklahoma to care for his mother. The couple cared for many family members over the years. They settled in Tonkawa, OK., where they lived for 35 years. Calvin worked for Wetmore Industries, and he was foreman of the metal shop when he retired. They moved to Clovis in 2001. Calvin had a strong faith and was a board member in Assembly of God churches in Washington, Montana and Tonkawa. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Clovis; three sons, Ferral and wife Mary Lou, of Fresno, Neil and wife Maria, of Oceanside, Don and wife Dolly, of Pueblo West, CO.; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 10;00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at Peoples Church, North Lobby Chapel at 11:15 a.m.
